Readership with Erasmus ended. I return to friendship with Zola and the last six of his Rougon-Macquart. La Terre, at the moment.

Kenney Shape is now FREE! (and it'll remain free, forever) ✨ Previously a paid tool, I'm releasing it as a gift to the community. Today's update will be the final one, with no further updates planned. That way I can focus on new software & projects! kenney.itch.io/kenney-shape

Omg DD2 Dark Arisen is out, must resist the urge!!! Then again, there's reading week... next week... But I have about 55 assignments due 😵‍💫, along with midterm prep. At least I'm finally making games/prototypes

Amen to "There's no place in my life for that bullshit." My hope is that by the time I finish CompSci (next year), the hype will have died down about this "miracle". But as I've told other colleagues, I'll either be making games or I'll be flipping burgers. TBD where that approach gets me 🫠

River. With a score composed by Richard Tognetti. Willem Dafoe narrates a script from award-winning author Robert Macfarlane. The film also features additional music from William Barton, Jonny Greenwood and Radiohead. Stunning in every way. youtu.be/efHe-VYtHzY

Been playing #GRIS (2018). A girl goes through grief and the colors go out of the world. Then gradually start coming back. And a lot of the puzzle themes are about the (natural) ways in which she learns to trust the world again. It's been very very touching, here's some shots. PS5, physical disk
The world is grey and her reflection is black&whiteSliding into the focus of anger (red)Navigating the cyclical nature of angerBlue comes out in the hands of a giant statue destroyed above the nose (aka no eyes); blue, like tears, like crying and like the life-giving rain

Something different from my usual fare: the story of my last few months of programming & optimization in C++, as I tried to learn and master the language. With a little sophistication at the end, which finally got me over the vaunted line of 10x performance gain. 100% human-written, now verifiable.

A screenshot from Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

Goku, the main protagonist of the series, rides atop his cloud, soaring through a great blue sky. Goku is depicted here as a child, first seen in the first few chapters of the original series. He rides his yellow cloud, the Flying Nimbus.A screenshot from Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

Yamcha, the desert bandit from the series Dragon Ball, prepares to use his Wolf Fang Fist against Goku, mimicking their first encounter in the original series. The photo is focused on his eye, which is framed by his open hand.A screenshot from Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

Master Roshi, Goku's martial arts teacher, prepares to use his iconic technique: the Kamehameha. He charges the blue energy blast between his hands, kicking up sparks and wind atop the grassy field he stands on.A screenshot from Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

Goku and Bulma stand in front of a setting sun that shimmers behind them. The photo is wavy and blurry, mimicking a photo taken underwater.

Before Shogun fame, see Cosmo Jarvis already being good in Nocturnal (2019). Wasn't sure what to expect, but flick turned out to be a visual treat, and an accomplished reflection on the blending between different types of love as complicity. I like finding these small gems. #movieReview #cinema

Autumn breeze whispers through the trees, But flowers wear their aging youth And find ways to dance gingerly, In defiance. #photography | #dslr | #imageAndVerse (Notice how each verse fits its respective picture?!?!) (edits in Shotwell Viewer) (I dislike these parentheses & can't stop using them)
Oriented portrait, the picture tells the story of how wild pastures (in the foreground) become groves become forests (in the middle), as they are led by the vanishing point in the background, a glimpse of the last light of day, as it illuminates a far-off tall canopy which is revealing its first colorations of fall; a cycle of birth, growth, maturity, decay... and rebirthTwo cosmos are talking to each other, the purple is bigger and its petals slightly shriven as it faces us, while the orange one is smaller and perky, but we only see it from behind; the background is blurred out but resembles a mix of greenery and grey asphaltHm. A rather darkened setting in which a large patch of yellow flowers mixed with purple-tinged puffs (hawksbeard or sow-thisle, unsure) are bending to the violence of Notos, bringer of storms and rain; most importantly, there is a sense in which this flowery multitude is swaying in a Brownian fashion, too complex to understand; in the background, a shadowed hint of firsTwo woodland sunflowers are framed in the photo, both having grown to full maturity; the one in the foreground is still in full bloom, while the one in the back has lost much of its inflorescence; the photo is rather dark, taken in very low-light and showing artifacts characteristic of high ISO by the camera; in far background, tall trees in shadow frame the scene, while a smidge of dusk-light comes through from the upper left corner

Omg I didn't know about the suffix syntax. And it's very neat how thing2 works because it just auto-casts by cutting out the higher order bits, I love that! I wonder if manually casting vs just using another var is "faster", although var2 has to be fetched/stored to, and that costs time.

Me: I will take a one-day break from bitpacking optimization Zeus, Aegis-Bearer, Gatherer of Clouds: I grant you favorable omen #photography | #dlsr | #walking (and yeah, I felt like some alt text)
Beyond the darkened silhouettes of park trees and shadowed grass, a luminous breakout over the horizon is only so wide before grey-blue clouds smother it from aboveA half-half picture, the lower half pitch-dark shapes of canopies, while above a circular clearing sky lets pass the golden rays of a dying sun, promises of tomorrow's rebirthA clearing sky behind a darkened silhouette of tree groves is veiled by porous, ethereal matter illuminated in orange from the setting sun; in the background, breaking clouds are darkened against the backdrop of pale blue and yellow blendingFrom the ground, the camera captures a grey covered sky, but in the foreground a red-tinted 30 degree arc of a rainbow, as if invisible but to the precise angle of the photographer standing straight and receiving the somber sky's salutation

Thanks! It's very kind of you to take the time for this! I have skimmed the document and I'm not sure how to use it in the future, but it's surely a good thing to have on deck. Thinking about it, it does make sense ? to promote the size of an operand to make sure the operation is uniformly applied.
