Cantillon lived from 1680 to 1734. He already criticized this effect. It was ignored generations ago. I have no hope that people will learn.

Only someone who actually has a problem with someone else saving the world and not himself, Elon Musk, could say that.

True, but how would keeping rates low help here? Is for me no argument for either raising nor lowering. To stay in your picture from above, I think The bloody nose comes from constant breathing inflation, not from a gentle slap on well-fed cheeks.

Exactly! And those kind of price regime changes happen very frequently. ..Another think is, inflation driven debt economy, the overall decentivation of building reserve and buffer, also leads to be extremely vulnerable for any kind if shocks.

Deflation doesn't mean recession I looked at the 30 largest economies in the world over the last 30 years, about 900 data points. Within that data set, there were 66 years of deflation. The median RGDP growth rate? 1.65%. Economies grew in 46 of 66 years

Is certainly one of the most direct causes, agree. It's immediate and easy to see. But for me, that's just something that happens. 🤗 But without the underlying debasement of money we would at least see pre-shock prices, at some later point.

There is, if you ask me, no monetary solution to a non-monetary problem. Imo, monetary intervention then only causes more problems 🙈

Brandgut @brandgut.org · 28/09/2026
Supply shocks aren't really the issue. Aside from the fact that also supply shocks in the recent past were caused by bad policy (and no market event). If you raise; "punch demand in the face" If you lower; The shock is more intense because more demand capacity meets the still tight supply.

Supply shocks, demand spikes, and credit expansion drive inflation. Sustained high nominal corporate profits are a natural result of currency debasement or distorted price signals, not a sudden surge in human "greed."

Tell me what has value on that island, or on your island, you little Brit. Telling people what they should see as valuable and deriving an absolute concept of value from that is classic Marxist stupidity. I can see where your wannabe arguement is going.

Binary tit is hilarious 😅 thx Well, ultimately, economics is about money, value, and goods. If you want to talk about your feelings or get your emotions under control, we should talk about something else. That's perfectly fine. Though, you need a therapist.

Brandgut @brandgut.org · 19/09/2026
Greed existed in 2019 too, yet inflation spiked when central banks expanded money supply. Blaming 'greed' isn't econonics, it's just an emotional buzzword for you lefties. High profits in inflated $ are a symptom not the cause. Confusing cause an effect is just bad economics.

Brandgut @brandgut.org · 18/09/2026
Buddy, hiding your complete lack of logic behind your emotional outrage and personal insults isn't the flex you think it is. But sure, you think you're morally superior. Nothing screams 'good person' quite like throwing personal insults..
100
Brandgut @brandgut.org · 18/09/2026
😃 all-in emotional rhetoric. 1. Humans dont get 8% more greedy in couple of years. I dont know if you know, but human brain dont work like that. 2. Mixing profit margins with systemic inflation wont help your argument either. Your baseline 'good ol days when markets were a nice place' is just bs.

Brandgut @brandgut.org · 17/09/2026
That completely ignores mechanism of money supply, demand, pricing and purchasing power.. Businesses setting higher prices is the manifestation of price inflation (one out of many), not the underlying cause why they do it. Yes, there is also greed. But reducing inflation to greed is nonsense.
110
Brandgut @brandgut.org · 17/09/2026
Is this supposed to be the pseudo-economic basis for MMT? Of course, money creation and inflation are related. Anyone who claims otherwise is either lying or has no understanding of economics. Or is simply misleading for a political agenda.

Brandgut @brandgut.org · 15/09/2026
Or to put it another way: People identify more with their football club than with abstract transnational alliances or big federations. And forcing people who don't understand or don't want to live in an artificial democracy to participate is also profoundly illiberal, imo.
110
Brandgut @brandgut.org · 15/09/2026
I think you are absolutely right. Also, what I think isn't really scalable is identity. Yes, democracy has to explain itself. If societies don't share the same values and group identity, it's difficult to explain.

same. Democracy only functions well when it is embedded in a liberal constitution. And such a constitution is only accepted in a liberal society.

Well my rather sarcastic point was, that most people neither have a 3mio 'emergency fund' nor 3mio in total assets. And that's totally ok. I'd just not run around and call these kind of amounts 'emergency fund' Cover 12 months of your live with dividends is not an emergency imho. 🖖
