Well hello there! I'm showing you what you all already saw and is what I've been seeing since 09 AM last morning. We're working on the strong tornado that impacted SW Sicily, here filmed by Benedetto Parisi

For comparison a loop of just the lowest elevation:

Enhancing temporal resolution by showing multiple elevation angles also works pretty nicely for the confirmed tornado in France earlier today:

The same time period for only the lowest scan, and therefore the usual 5 minute time step:

There are again some interesting things going on in France, with 2 pretty circulations visible close to the radar. I didn't note a TDS with them. It's also a good opportunity to experiment with an option to display all elevation angles within a certain interval, to enhance temporal resolution:

I found this very suspicious damage video, with information in the comments suggesting that the damage occurred indeed very close to this now almost certainly TDS: www.facebook.com/reel/2404250...

The location of the center of the potential TDS:

A radar loop of the storms just offshore near Barcelona last evening. It's a great evolution to watch, with a potentially tornadic supercell followed by a linear segment, that also had a potentially tornadic cell embedded in it. In the subsequent bowing phase, the circulations interact.

Potential TDS in coastal France last night @corentinaugris.bsky.social. But there's no damage report yet, despite the populated area.

Interesting hook and couplet just offshore near Barcelona. Looks suspicious for a possible tornadic waterspout.

Radar clearly indicated a low-topped supercell:

Besides the risk of flooding due to very large amounts of rain, some tornado risk exists as well along the French southeast coast today. This current hook echo with pronounced couplet makes that clear:

A massive upgrade to almost all of our Latin American tornado data is now available on the site! We're aware of some additional data still for South America, but as of now we've included as much publicly available information as we could.

Yesterday there were many waterspouts in the Gulf of Genoa, and quite a few of them were associated with Doppler-detectable circulations:

An earlier supercell just east of Corsica also produced a number of low-level circulations, in this loop I'm counting 3 small ones:

This will definitely have a follow-up! We should be able to get a drone up over the river to see if there still is damage there, but there seems to be a 4 km path from where the TDS is up to the surveillance footage location (an impacted car wash) nonetheless!

Regarding this 21 August event: It very strongly looks like the Fossalon radar detected a TDS with one of the mesovortices, for which currently no damage has been reported in the ESWD. But the region NW of Alberoni might be worth a look 🙂

With the help of new photo material, we were able to upgrade the Ohrdruf #tornado of 19 August 2026 to IF3. This makes it the first IF3 tornado in Germany since Bützow (5 May 2015). Since 2000, only nine IF3 tornadoes have been recorded in Germany. (Photo credits: Stefan Schambach, Ohrdruf)

The tornado damage path from August 19 between Georgenthal and Ohrdruf in Germany is clearly visible from the air. Over a distance of nearly 5 km and width of more than 500 m in places, extensive damage to trees and buildings can be seen.

In the meantime, 10 tornadoes from 19 August 2026 have been confirmed. How often does a tornado outbreak in Germany occur — defined here as at least 5 tornadoes, including at least one IF2+? Here is an overview. More information here:https://torex.team/2026/08/122--tornado-outbreak-19-08-2026/

Interesting. Though with such a Doppler signature it could also just be a matter of severe wind gusts.

Tornado Outbreak 19.08.2026

Radar doesn't show an obvious circulation here, but given the tornado's small size and distance to the radar, that isn't really surprising.

Bram van 't Veen @bramvantveen.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
That event looks highly suspicious on radar, since a tight circulation can be tracked across multipe frames:

We had a strong tornado in France today, moving through Pomas, with a clear TDS and debris ball. Besides this one, we had another highly likely TDS a bit farther east, southwest of Montlaur @corentinaugris.bsky.social . Additionally, many mesovortices were apparent in the subsequent QLCS.

The #tornado outbreak on 19.08.2026 was a day to remember with a classic setup (High shear low CAPE, HSLC). SRH was high and also concentrated on the lowest km. In addition LCL were low.

A severe weather and #tornado outbreak occurred on 19.08.2026. The German Tornado Expert Group (TOREX) is working intensively on the analysis of this event. DWD is also part of TOREX, jointly analyzes the large amount of info available. A first overview map showing the results has now been created.

For volumetric renderings, this monster supercell from South Dakota is one of my favourites. Look at the size of that BWER and region of strong cyclonic (in)flow! This storm produced hailstones up to 15 cm, 100 mph RFD winds and an EF2 tornado.
