♻️Mijn artikel gaat over verschrikkelijke reuzen, duistere spelonken en schitterende hemelgewelven, die van niets minder dan gerecycled papier en perkament gemaakt waren.

I visited 'Shadows of the Atlantic Ocean' at Het Scheepvaartmuseum, Amsterdam. Students of my course 'Creativity in the Early Modern City' will visit this beautiful permanent exhibition to learn about cultural exchange, colonialism, resistance, oral history and curating colonial objects.

(5/5) The early seventeenth-century Tupinambá leatherworks on display at the museum were used in early modern Europe for court #ballets and #banquets, showing how Indigenous dress was culturally appropriated for theatrical #spectacle.

Back at our ArtLab @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social with art history students. Working from a late 16th #French recipe, they recreated #sugar sculptures of #apples🍎. We even mixed some high-quality #saffron into the sugar, as was common at prestigious #courts: they leave behind bright yellow spots!👇

Week 2 of recreating an early modern #sugar🍡sculpture in our ArtLab! My art history students used a 16th-c. #French recipe, casting real fruits🍎🍐🍇in clay molds and pouring in🫗cane sugar. These edible artworks once adorned court #banquets🍴 across Europe and Asia, blending confectionery and sculpture.
