With RE in particular it's extra funny because the stories of those games were ripping off movies already! What made them worth anything was the fact that it was a playable mash-up of good ass horror flicks. Translating that back into a movie would be redundant by default! Why would you want that?

The discourse around the RE movie is so bleak, man. I don't actually know what the point of an adaptation is anymore. I guess the point of them is that you can sit arms crossed watching a story you've seen before and nod every time they "get it right" by including shit you've seen already.

You know what was a good art trend? Brazilian Miku Firstly, Miku rules; even if you don't dig Vocaloid music, her design has made her ontological constant. Secondly, there's so much opportunity within the concept behind the trend. It's ripe for both derivative works AND iterative ones!

Today would've been the sixty-fifth birthday of Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi. It tends to get swallowed up in the enormous franchise it became, but I truly believe that his original manga can provide a valuable lesson to artists about process and work and improvement over time.

I don't think the originator of a genre necessarily has to have the duty to innovate the genre. That can be other people's job. Sometimes they just have the ideas at the right time and then never have the best new ideas again and that's fine.
