#Conlangity Day 2 I'd say Nummersil has a good balance between vowels and consonants, and most sounds are compatible with my own language (Flemish) -yes I was lazy- except for some extras like the th and kh.

Is there any logic behind the online use of 'this is political' as a conversation-stopper? Why would something being political mean you should not talk about it? Aren't things that are 'political' often very important and things that need to be talked about?

For the #WIPsnips It's complicated. The language is a future form of English that has no masculine pronouns (or words in general), in a land with no men, and the niece of the guard is technically her clone. And Ronan is a boy and Pyra never shuts up when she feels something is not just...
Ronan cringed. It wasn’t that that Hévan had no male pronouns, and he had supposed their disguise wasn’t really that good, but he still felt like sinking to the floor with that new information. So the clothes they had chosen were like a body-sized Epsilon badge?
‘Ambassador Jibrilla would say he’s a sister. And he looks like a Hévan in those clothes… And no-one expects a man to casually walk around here anyway. They don’t exist here!’ Pyra defended him.
‘You’re wrong. It, eh, she, eh, he doesn’t look like a sister. He… looks like an outsider.’ The word suddenly sounded weird and unnatural when she used it.
‘There’s a lot of women here with his haircut too.’ Pyra said stubbornly.
‘Everything about both of you looks completely wrong. And you don’t want to catch the attention of The Sisterhood, believe me.’
‘Then you will have to guide us and keep us safe. So what’s your name, niece of the guard?’ Pyra pointed her finger at the newcomer as if she were putting a spell on her with a wand.
‘Me? I’m Selora, but, eh? Why do you assume I will help you? Why should I?’
‘Who else? You know the place. And your aunt was the only friendly person we met here yet.’ Ronan said.
‘Wait, do you pledge allegiance all friendly people, regardless of sex, rating or identity status? And nationality?’ Pyra suddenly asked.
Selora stared at her.
‘Do I what?’
‘It’s a version of the Ghost Town pledge, so we know we can trust you. If you say yes I have something for you…’
‘It sounds illegal… I hope no-one hears…’

For the #WIPsnips Lots of 'well's as an interjection in 27th century Nation english it seems. Mayb some of them should be pruned even... Free-range outlaw child or not, Pyra is the sort of 15yo who finds alcohol stupid.
Ronan looked at the empty table and then picked up the menu card of the Square bar, which had a lot of drinks from beers to teas.
‘Hmm, they even have real coffee here, not just Nation-coffee. And Ghost Town Camelia green tea.’
‘But look at that price… I you want to try those I would just come to our bar then, closer to the source, and more authentic. They buy it from us anyway. The Square bar is one of the places we trade with, the place where everything started. It’s no secret that Elder Eliza likes her Manfred plus tripel beers… I don’t know why though, the stuff is undrinkable…’
‘You’ve tasted a Manfred plus tripel?’ Ronan said, taking a chair.
‘Yeah, one sip. Enough to convince me it’s not for me. I think that was my parents’ plan too, and it worked. Alcohol is stupid anyway. I don’t see why anyone loves that stuff.’
‘It makes you feel grown-up I think. But my parents are extremely strict. I wouldn’t know. I’m not even sure they’ll let me drink it when I’m eighteen’
‘Why would anyone want to feel like an adult? That’s silly. No, no beer for me.’
‘Glad to hear that, young lady, because you seem way to young for it, even with that Free Person badge. I thought those were only given to adults?’ A waiter had appeared as if out of nothing.
Pyra looked at him, a bit confused. ‘Eh, no, the elders always say we need to wear them whenever we get outside, but I don’t think Ghost Town kids get out much. I’m one of the eldest we have anyway.’
‘Ah, well. We will have to talk to your elders about that then. We always used the Free Person badge as a sign you’re old enough to drink, as we do with our double ranking badges. But with the new generation that might be trickier if your version is true.’
‘Well, we’re not going to drink alcohol today. You can give me your iced three herbs tea.’
‘Eh, same for me…’ Ronan said, looking from Pyra to the waiter.’
‘It’s okay that I pay? I’ve always wanted to do that one day.’
‘Oh, if you insist. I don’t have that much money on me anyway…

For the #WIPsnips Ronan & Pyra, locked up in Héva, the land with no men. His panic attack is over at this point.
He looked at the ceiling for a while, trying to entangle the endless thoughts that came from everywhere at the same time.
After a while it seemed that he had calmed down again, and was breathing normally. He sat up to look what was going on with Pyra, who had been uncharacteristically silent the whole time. She was meditating indeed, with her eyes closed. An ancient pose that looked like a statue, or at least an old picture from an antique book to him.
She opened her eyes. ‘Are you looking at me?’
‘Sorry, I wanted to see how you are, and you were sitting perfectly still, so I was wondering what was going on inside.’
‘Observe your thoughts, let them be and let them go.
Observe your feelings, let them be and let them go’ she said monotonously.
‘Does it work?’
‘Sometimes. But everything is still going too fast now. My brain is a mess sometimes.’
‘I don’t even know how to name my feelings sometimes. It’s always an overwhelming knot.’
She stood up. ‘But you are feeling okay now? I mean, no panic attacks and all anymore about being male in a country where men don’t exist?’
He stood up too and shrugged. ‘Strangely, not really. I’m weirdly aware of everything, but I’m not frozen and in shut-down now. I can think clearly. I’m normal again.’
‘Oh, you certainly are…’ She started laughing.

For the #WIPsnips Ronan lives in a nation that has called itself The Nation as if there were no other nations in the world, but they were indeed isolated for more than a century. And obsessed with manliness... Pyra lives in a village that originateed with the female outlaws.
He nodded. He knew the history, even though he was sure she would probably be able to give him a much more detailed version. The Nation had always been extremely obsessed with masculinity and male hierarchy, in a way that made women almost property until twenty years ago or so. The Ghost Towns had been for outlaws in those days, mostly ignored by the Male Nation because they didn’t fit the narrative about women, or about the sort of enemies manly men would expect and like to fight. They really were born in different worlds, only a few kilometres from each other.
‘So what’s a one-in-a-hundred kid?’ He finally asked, so he could break the uneasy silence.
‘One-in-a-hundred boy, not just kid. A good person who happens to be male. There was a saying in late segregation times, when there were still only women here, that not all men are evil, not even in The Nation itself, and that at least one in a hundred was a good person. Elder Michael was the first to earn that title I think, after unifying the black markets on the boy and girls sides to make the Pen Pal system.’
‘Ah, I see. But why would you call me one? You’ve only just met me.’
‘I just know, I saw it from afar. Call it female intuition. And you said the pledge.’
‘Anyone could have said those words. What if I were lying?’
‘No one will speak the pledge falsely twice…,’ she said with an ominous grin.

For the #WIPsnips This must be very weird without context...

‘As an old saying says, “the friendship is the benefits”…’
‘Hmm, that sounds weird.’
‘Yeah, old sayings often do. It’s probably like a reference to something else, but I have no clue what. I don’t know what could be of more benefit than friendship itself. It’s the basis of all deeper relationships too.’
‘Maybe something like that Planetary Council shirt I wouldn’t have gotten from the people of the embassy if I weren’t your friend?’
‘The more friends you have, the more you can share indeed. And help each other.’
‘That’s not how Nationers reason, you know; competition, be better than the others, distrust and bullying. Meddling with everything that is not your business too, being different means you just asked for it.’
‘If they’d actually think, they wouldn’t be so stupid.’
‘Ah, probably, but thinking too much isn’t manly, you know…’

For #TFOTSnip Ronan and Pyra, and the Nation wildlife of the 27th century, casually walking through the wilderness to the settlement named Oakling Project, which is located on the other side of the river... (The mammoths are feral hybrid neomammoths from an old de-extinction projects)
The man put away his stunner and turned to the duo.
‘Are you two crazy? Don’t ever provoke the wild dogs. The tiny ones are the most dangerous ones even.’ He looked at the two teenagers that he had just saved, who were completely out of place here. ‘And what on Earth are you two doing here all alone? You two clearly have no wilderness skills!’
‘Eh, we’re trying to get back to Seventh City Ghost Town? And the car bringing us was in a breakdown’ The girl said.
‘Seventh City? And where exactly you did you come from?’
‘Héva?’ The boy said.
‘Through Cityless Ghost Town. The driver said we could find the male colony of Oakling by going through the woods. It would be faster.’ The girl added.
The man looked at the two kids again and frowned.
‘You wanted to just walk through here unprepared?’
‘She likes new experiences, it’s educational.’ The boy said.
‘I see that.’ The man finally said. ‘Come, follow me so you don’t get into trouble again. There’s bigger animals than feral chihuahuas here too.’
‘Oh, we’ve met the giant mammoth already.’
‘Goliath? The megatusker? He’s not what I was thinking about. He’s chill and harmless. Just looks impressive.’
‘Panthers or bears? Pyra always says they don’t actually eat humans.’
‘Oh, they usually hide from strangers, and we haven’t seen bears in years with all the panthers and feral dogs around. No, it’s the mad moose you have to watch out for currently. So follow me to get to the camp. It’s located on the other side of the river, which is hard to pass if you don’t know where the bridge is by the way. Unless you like wading through it like the animals who made these trails do.’
‘Ah…’

For the #WIPsnips Diagnosed while in a freeze state, or a meltdown or how do they call it... Pyra disagrees with the Nation approach to neurodivergence a lot, and it makes her angry...
‘Why do you even have that stupid diagnosis? I mean, you have some traits of Cogittio three as a neurotype, but you’re certainly not heavily disabled or so. And if I hear how that diagnosis describes you you should be incapable to do almost anything, instead of just being a bit socially awkward and easily overwhelmed. And they ignore how smart you are too.
‘I was very young, but I remember those tests. It was a scary place, and there were men in white clothes. They looked at me and they asked questions, all kinds of weird questions. And I think I didn’t answer at all, I was just sitting there panicking and couldn't move or react.’
‘They diagnosed you, based on a panic attack? That’s so wrong. Unprofessional too.’
‘I was completely frozen. It was much worse than what happened on the plane.’
‘So an extreme stress reaction, a melt-down, shut-down, what is even the word? But That’s still no reason to say all the weird stuff they do about you. It might be an autism symptom as they call it, sort of, but not in that way. And I’ve been very close to you for almost a week now, and I've read books that your daughtsers cannot even dream of, so I can tell you more about yourself than weirdo doctors in white clothes who see you for the first time in a state of freeze reaction.’
‘About myself?’
‘About your Cogittio three neurotype. You’re not actually that disabled. You’re a capable boy of far above average intelligence, you’re inventive and interested in a lot of things and can go very deep with them. You might have strong panic and stress reactions sometimes, and need some space to adapt to unexpected situations and all that, yes, but when I give you enough space and safety everything just works out fine.’

For the #WIPsnips One stream in Ronan and Pyra's story, the one running through Ruin Lake... (Which isn't a place we'll see in the story, but I'm quite sure they'll go there often afterwards)
‘But I suppose you’re not comfortable swimming here anyway then, maybe we should escape to Ruin Lake in the hills one time. That’s a quieter place to swim.’
‘Never heard of it. Your people really go so far into the wilderness?’
‘Oh, yes. The hills are cool. There’s a lot of forests but underneath it there’s a whole lost city, and sometimes the buildings are gone but the foundation has survived and become a sort of pool. Ruin lake is a really big one, it has a weird maze shape and is quite deep sometimes, but there’s a part that has been silted up with white sand, where the little mountain stream comes in. It looks like a beach and there’s a shallow part where you can just walk into the water like in stories about the sea. Sometimes in summer we go there with all the kids together. It’s a fun trip.’
‘And there’s no dangerous animals?’
‘If you’re afraid of a frog or of old Fred. But animals generally run to hide far away from a group of noisy outlaw kids.’
‘Who’s old Fred supposed to be?’
‘A giant ancient ghost sturgeon. Looks like a prehistoric monster but is quite chill actually. More than three meters long.’
‘What on Earth is a ghost sturgeon? You Ghost Towners surely like your ghosts…’
‘They’re called that because they’re very pale, and look like a ghost in muddy waters. No one knows how he got there, they usually live in rivers. But he’s as harmless as we Ghost Towners are, and he likes our company when we visit.’

For the #WIPsnips She signalled a guard, stowaways are a serious irregularity that the Sisterhood might not like. (The part is written from a Hévan POV, so there's some uneasiness about the mere existence of male pronouns and about the presence of a boy.)
Everything was quiet in the hall of the aviation station of Allana. Sisters were quietly doing their work on this uneventful weekday. The main job in the aviation hall now was to unload the only international flight of the day, probably of the week even. A box with Afropean eternal batteries would be sent to the capital, and then there was some medicines, rare chemicals, and several boxes of books for a new room in the local library.
Andora and Mandragina came with a cart to take the cargo, and then stopped in their tracks when two very strange younglings came out of the aeroplane. One of them was a girl with wild red curls, the other had short black hair and didn’t even seem to be a girl and looked in distress. Their clothes were weird too, both wore a Planetary Council shirt with some Nation Island identification badge on it, but they weren’t Nation ranking badges, just some sort of W-symbol, something from the outlaws probably. Andora dropped her box and signalled a guard.
The red-headed girl looked at her and Mandragina for a few seconds, as if wondering what to say, before she spoke up. ‘My excuses, eh, Sister. We accidentally were in the plane looking at the books when it took off, and now we’re lost in the wrong country. My friend here is having a panic attack. I’m looking for help for him.’
Andora nodded uneasily at the use of the obsolete pronoun. So the pale youngling really was a ‘he’? ‘Say that again, little sister? And where do you two come from?’
‘Seventh City Ghost Town, Sister. We’re friends of Ambassador Lady Jibrilla. And we accidentally ended up here. We didn’t mean to enter your country illegally.’
‘Ah, so you’re stowaways all the way from Nation Island…’ The woman looked from the girls face to her T-shirt and badge, and then at the manling, who stood there pale, frozen and breathing heavily. ‘And you brought a man-person to Héva,’ she said accusingly.

For the #WIPsnips They will pay for their stay, but not with money... (Oops, that sounds more creepy than it is)
‘So we don’t have to pay anything?’ Ronan asked the blue-haired girl behind the bar.
‘Oh, no, you’re travellers. You can eat and stay for free, but if you stay longer than this night they will ask you to help and do some chores. Cleaning, doing the dishes, cooking, whatever. Or maybe something else altogether. It depends on what the community needs.’
‘Ah… Like that.’ He said, fiddling with his fingers.
‘Don’t like to work, Nation boy?’
‘Eh, I don’t mind working, but I’ve never been taught any of these things. I’m afraid I’m going to screw up. I’ll never get accepted here if that’s what you need from me.’
‘Ah…’ She looked from Ronan to Pyra, who just shrugged.
‘I’m quite sure he’s capable of doing any sort of basic chores if you give him the space to learn and make mistakes first, without shaming him. Those stupid Nationers just didn’t give him any chance to learn anything in his life yet. Boys don’t do chores, it’s not manly or something stupid like that.’
‘Oh, that? Well, they might request something completely different anyway too with you two. But that’s up to Lady Amber to decide I think.’
‘Something completely different? Like what?’ Pyra said.
‘Isn’t it evident? Knowledge and information as payment? You two come from a closed country, and have brought books too. Plus he is the first male Nationer ever to travel Héva. A man in a country where men don’t exist, coming out okay. Your story is valuable. And we haven’t had international learners here in a while.’
‘But we aren’t anything like that. We aren’t even adults. And doesn’t it take a serious training before you can be international learners?’
