Post a meme made by you (also just one here, but it's suitably silly and niche)

Shot from the Twelve Kingdoms anime with fake subtitle text over it. At the bottom: "Just according to kaikyaku." At the top: "(Translator's note: kaikyaku is a Twelve Kingdoms term for person from another world)"

9. Metroid Dread (recced by Twistedlink343; retired 9/13). I've enjoyed Metroid to varying degrees for years, but Dread broke me. Huge maps w/sometimes half-assed gating, the parrying from Samus Returns but worse, and absurdly hard bosses. In fact, I gave up on the final boss, on Rookie difficulty

Samus obtains a map in one of Metroid Dread's map rooms, which causes a globe to appear and the walls to light up. At least the game's pretty.

A cutscene, post-boss battle, where Samus holds a cube containing a new ability.

One of the E.M.M.I.s, agile robots who are almost indestructible, and have the worst parrying quicktime events attached to them.

A Chozo statue room, yet another place where Samus obtains new abilities, as is tradition.

8. Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (recced by @hewwohayley.bsky.social; first ending reached 8/16, completed 9/1). (Spike) Chunsoft Thriller VN #2 is deserving of its stellar reputation, though I ran to GameFAQs yet again while seeking the true ending. Mostly excellent game mechanics, too

Screenshot from Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (aka 999). Our hero Junpei stares at himself in the mirror, bags under his eyes. By the way, all of these screenshots are from the original DS version, same as what I played, and were obtained from Dragonatrix's LP in the Let's Play Archive.

In 999, a hand is held up to a scanning device on the top screen, and the bottom one contains story text: "Ace nodded and placed his hand on the scanner panel. The device beeped again, and a 2nd asterisk appeared."

Seven, a big guy in orange overalls, says, "Looks like a vase. Maybe you could use that..." in the top screen. The bottom one shows said vase, which could be rotated and examined with the stylus.

Lotus, who for reasons which go unexplained, is dressed like a belly dancer, talks to another character. Dialogue on top screen, narrative text on the bottom.

The short story volume arrived, also in excellent condition! I'm done! The yellowed page edges of vols. 7-10 inspired me to finally get some manga-sized acid-free backing boards. Those should be arriving (in two different sizes) on Thursday; I have a handful of other manga that could use them 😛

The Girl from the Other Side: Siúil a Rún vol. 12 - dear. - Side Stories

The top and left page edges of The Girl from the Other Side: Siúil a Rún vols. 7-12, stacked in ascending order. 7-10 have been placed into clear polypropylene bags, since their page edges are clearly yellowed.

armabianca has started making flap mechanism clocks?! 🤩❤️ There's just two right now, both Berserk-themed; I don't follow that series at all, though. Will keep an eye out for others in the future...

Rectangular desk clock themed after the character Guts, from the series Berserk. Both the hours and minutes are represented by flap mechanisms, similar to those used on old train station arrival/departure boards. I miss those.

Another clock in the same style and form factor, but themed after the character Femto.

7. moon: Remix RPG Adventure (recced by @cetchathach.bsky.social; alt & main endings reached 8/1). A PS1-era "anti-RPG" that's really a quirky adventure game. Patience required and, despite some hint systems, moon logic (no pun intended) is present; use a guide when necessary. For genre fans

Screenshot from moon. A ghostly person made of clay talks to the protagonist, a hand-drawn invisible boy wearing visible clothes, including a hat, gloves, and shoes. To the boy's right is a burnt-to-death slime. The ghostly person says, 'He's out there slaughtering animals and earning quote-unquote "experience".' Oh, and the background is rendered with 3D software. That's right, three different mediums in one screenshot!

Screenshot from moon. The main character, in his true form as a young boy in pajamas, talks to the Queen, a clay floating head, in a dream space. The Queen says, 'naruki, you have reached Love Level 8 "Love Intern"'

naruki is the name I wrote in for the boy; yep, it's one of those games where you can name the main character, and capital letters aren't an option. Anyway, here he is in front of a ramshackle old windmill house with sliding Japanese-style doors. The guy who answers the door angrily says, "Knock not on this door!! This old man's intolerant of such Westernism!!"

In one of moon's caves is Burrn's record store. Burrn is a rockin' dude with an encyclopedic knowledge of music, and he's reviewed every album he sells. Here is one such review, of an album with an awkwardly sculpted bikini woman on the cover: "No sound heats blood like Latin rhythm. The percussion becomes the sound of a lady's shaking hips." By the way, the music, by Thelonius Monkees, tends to be wonderful and diverse; this is one of the few non-driving games out there with a healthy amount of drum and bass on the soundtrack.

06.5. Bonus pics, with some of Jersey's finest in-season produce! Hey, @okazu.yuricon.com, just letting you know that I got around to building Miorine this summer, like I'd hoped! 🍅

Figure-rise Standard Suletta and Miorine, together at last! Suletta cheerfully sits atop a ripe Jersey tomato as Miorine looks on, and a green Haro (a Haropla) hangs out, flaps open.

Suletta is worked up about something amidst the tomatoes, while Miorine smiles. Haro smiles in their own way.

Suletta and Miorine with a completely different Haro, a white one, wearing a purple knit cap. Neither Machu nor Nyaan could be reached for comment.

Two Haros, three tomatoes, and two girls happily holding hands (as best as I could arrange that pose). The end!

06. July 20 - Bandai's Figure-rise Standard Miorine Rembran. It only took me two years to get to Miorine after finishing Suletta. No etching stickers for this one, thankfully, but her stockings took a long time to paint. A modern Bandai kit, with modern Bandai quality 👍

A completed model kit of Miorine Rembran, the co-lead of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. She's in her standard muted teal school uniform and long brown stockings. I put some blue shading in her light grey hair, which turned out pretty nicely.

The back view of the pose from the previous picture. The hair shading is a little messier here.

Miorine tilts her hips and looks off to her right, mouth slightly open. Note that her boots have been replaced with bare stocking feet. Yep, I painted these as well!

Miorine smiles, eyes closed, as she tilts a watering can; a trowel is in her other hand.

05. July 19 - Cavico's Hakobu/Riku Cart & Container Set. A Maruttoys/MiZ kit that's not from Kotobukiya! Not as good as a Koto release, unfortunately, and with some very tight joints. Looks cute, even though one of the rear wheels will never turn...

Riku, a little white robot on three wheels, carries a small cart behind them, with a white crate on top of it.

Riku with the cart detached and one of the rear wheels partially extended. I had originally attached the wrong wheel to this joint, which snapped during my attempt to fix this issue. The poorly-presented instructions for this section didn't help, either. I cemented the correct wheel in place, which is why it won't turn anymore.

Riku's rear, and a look at the cart without the crate on top. The white edges of the cart were the only places where putty was (successfully) used. A couple of attempts to putty the two pieces of the white casing on the front wheel, visible in other pictures, did not go well. I stripped off that putty and left it as-is.

Maruttoys' Tamotu next to Riku. I took this opportunity to putty the two parts of each of Tamotu's white leg covers.

Episode 31 Grab Bag! - Of *course* Armstrong Plaza would have this statue - Ataru Moroboshi-ass expression - IN SPACE, NO ONE EATS THEIR ICE CREAM CONES - Obligatory Kamille Dramatic Closeup

Still from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Kamille is in a park on the moon filled with greenery, standing in front of a statue of the moon lander from the Apollo 11 mission.

Kamille looking a little like a Shigeru Mizuki (or a certain Rumiko Takahashi) character as Fa comes up behind him and asks, "What are you doing?!"

Two soft-serve ice cream cones are thrown in the trash. Are cones on moon cities not edible? What the hell is wrong with you, Universal Century timeline?!

Kamille dramatic closeup. He's in a spacesuit, lit all in blue and teal, with a half-startled, half-concerned look on his face. All he says is, "Sarah."

6. ULTRAKILL (recced by @mhoff.bsky.social; reached the end of the campaign as of patch 17d4 on 7/13). A blood-fueled robot's jaunt through the nine circles of Hell (well, eight, for now). Imagine Unreal with the bullshit excised and replaced with Bayonetta's weirdness, and then some. Good stuff

A screenshot from ULTRAKILL, a first-person, retro-styled, shooter. The scene is of a dungeon or prison area. Two glowing eyes peek out behind a hole in the wall.

The beginning of the first stage of the Lust area, titled Bridgeburner. The scene is of a massive city at night, lit with hot pink lights.

An all-white room from the Violence area. Bloodstained figures stand still on either side. At the end of the room is a raised pedestal with a red skull key locked up behind bars.

I forget exactly what was going on here, but that is a lot of blood spurting everywhere. Sorry I didn't post any screenshots of the actual gameplay, but this game is super fast, so I had to take them when I could.

5. The House in Fata Morgana (recced by @creid8.bsky.social, true ending reached 7/11). A gothic visual novel about a cursed mansion, a mysterious maid, and a tragic history. Somewhat long-winded at times, and the vocals in much of the music could be *very* distracting, but excellent otherwise

A garden arch made of rose bushes. The narrative text says, "As I see it, though, the pleasant, gentle times in our lives have value *because* they come to an end."

The White-Haired Girl in the mansion. She talks to a boy named Mell and is wearing a maid outfit. She says, "I'm sensitive to sunlight and can hardly spend any time outside. That makes me sound like some kind of demonic creature..."

The Maid, a different character in a maid outfit, stands before the entrance to a dark cellar. She addresses the player and says, "Why did such tragedies befall them? If I were to guess, Master... it was because you had not returned."

A girl with long dark hair looks over her shoulder toward the viewer. Behind her is a sunlit ocean.
