Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 3hAnd that's another Filmscream for the books! While the lineup ended up being mostly a disappointment for me, it did end on a high note and now I am home and ready to crash. 010
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 3hFILM #6: Serial Mom. The highlight of the evening! er, morning. Wicked black comedy that shifts from satirizing the notion of the perfect housewife to 90 true crime sensationalism. Good script, great casting. 340
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 6hFILM #5: Video Vixen. This is the requisite micro-budget indie and the sneak preview/"secret film." Masked lady goes around killing influencer stereotypes. More naptime. At least it was short. 110
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 8hIt is a fitting choice for a horror movie marathon (considering it's about an audience watching a cursed film) and it was a welcome shot of energy at a time we all could use it. 100
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 8hFILM #4: Demons. I watched this last year for #horrormeganthon, so I won't repeat myself at length. It's still a stylish, goopy thrill ride, even if there's very little to hold it together. 110
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 10hThe only novelty was the presentation - it's a film shot on video, edited on VCR, and screened here on 35mm to give it an extra layer of wear and grime. 100
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 10hIt took less than 5 minutes of watching 3 weirdos ramble and wander around humping random objects before I decided I would fare better by putting in my earplugs, wrapping myself up in my cape, and taking a nap. 110
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 10hFILM #3: Trash Humpers.static.klipy.comKrusty The Clown: What The Hell Was That?ALT: Krusty The Clown: What The Hell Was That? 210
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 12hThis one is infamous now for its unintentional gay subtext, but it's already trading the surreal dreaminess of the original for puns and increasingly convoluted deaths. Not unexpected, but still disappointing. 110
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 12hFILM #2: Nightmare on Elm Street 2. It was gruesome but dumb - too silly to be scary, not silly enough to be funny. 110
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 14hI suspect it's going to go over huge with the crowd here. 000
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 14hI watched it last year. It's got some neat moments and cool vibes but it never quite comes together into anything coherent. 110
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 14hEven then, it would always be a B/C-level title - known by enthusiasts, but not a classic or even a cult classic. It's competently made, but nothing more. 110
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 14hToo bad it is exceeding average at best. You could have released this 25 years ago and it would fit right in with the rest of that millennial J-horror boom. It's got all the hallmarks of that era. He'll, the fact it's directed by an American with an all-Japanese cast would be a huge selling point. 110
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 14hFILM #1: Never After Dark. It's pretty basic: an exorcist lady comes to a big house in the woods to purge a ghost...of a sort. According to the poster in the lobby, it came out just 2 weeks ago. 110
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 16hI forgot to add that this is a #horrormeganthon extra, with 5 films tonight that will be new to me (and two that are very new, period.) 350
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 16hIt's a little earlier than usual this year, but it's time once again for Filmscream, the all-night horror movie marathon! I'm dressed up and ready for the show to begin! 1160
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 19hIt helps that the movie is excpetionally goofy. Any version of the cast could have gotten good material out of that thing. 030
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 20hWait 'til you get to the dance break. The whiteness of that scene is off the charts. 100
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 21hThe blame for that lies primarily with that video's director: Michael Bay. (not a joke) 120
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 21hOh I'm aware that like a lot of conservative Cuban-Americans, he's sore that grandpa used to be rich until meal ol' Castro chased them out. But even before Trump came along, as a rep, he was notable only for toeing the party line and gulping water awkwardly. 000
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 21hIt's also fitting because Rubio has always been a worm of a man: a spineless dweeb with no brain or heart to speak of. 230
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 21h*looks that term up* Yeah, that's a fitting one for him in many ways. 120

Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 23hSome of this can be blamed on a director with more experience in TV than film. The rest can be blamed on it being made in 1960s England, where the critics and censors treated any film with content more extreme than two people quietly taking tea together as scandalous to the extreme. Alas. 010
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 23hIt's as if the film is too afraid to get properly ghoulish despite being set at a Grand Guignol theater. Anytime the film threatens to get exciting, it pulls the narrative breaks...at least until the final 10 mins and the film's sudden, unsatisfying conclusion. 100
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 23hThe film is carried solely by Christopher Lee, who plays the director as a cold, callous Svengali type who commands the attention of every scene he's in. Too bad he's killed midway through and the rest falls upon Charles Glover as the "heroic" male lead, who comes off as detached and patronizing. 100
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 23hTheatre of Death should have been so much more than what it is. After all, it's a film set in a Grand Guignol theater where a mysterious series of murders seem to be tied to the troupe's new director and the ingenue he has taken under his wing. #horrormeganthon 100

Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 09/10/2026This was the director's debut, and it shows in the boring acting, kills that are too chaotic to scare, and unwillingness to lean into the surreal dream imagery. All it's got going for it is the Aboriginal angle, as the teens are killed by deadly Aussie critters at the behest of a magic man's ghost. 100

Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 07/10/2026It's not a lavish film by any means, but it's got style and a solid cast of mostly unknowns, and the sympathy it has for its duo of lady protags and their anxieties is rare to see in a horror film of this vintage. I might even dare to call it feminist? 000
Witchchild129 @brainchild129.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Dream Demon owes a lot to Nightmare on Elm Street, but it takes the basic concept and runs with it in a good way, as a posh young woman's wedding anxiety dreams begin to blur into reality along with the repressed memories of an American adoptee. #horrormeganthon 120
