I once lived in a home in Central America, and the custom when anyone stopped by was to tell them you were about to eat, would they join you. It didn’t matter if you’d eaten 5 times that day, you did that. So that if someone was hungry you could care for them without them asking.

Here’s a quick Paul Clement story. Back in 2015, Nevada had enacted one of those shell-game “school choice” schemes that give state money to rich parents for private school tuition. We sued over it. The state Solicitor General at the time was Lawrence Van Dyke, who we expected to defend the suit.

They have, in fact, learned some lessons of the Iraq Wars. Back then, both times, the run up to war was lengthy, and while not exactly adequate they were society-wide engagements. Now, wars drop like surprise album releases, or bingeable series on Netflix.

Film director Carlos Saura's empathetic lens on the poverty striken Spain of the early 1950s. Perhaps many of these people had moved to the cities within a decade. Many on today's Spanish right seem nostalgic for the social relations, deference and power structure which governed those years.
