Last day for public comment tomorrow, Jun 29! Not only is the administration proposing to end nondiscrimination policies, it’s proposing to mandate that discrimination in order to access HUD funding. Leave a comment below.

And hoping the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals or THIS SCOTUS uphold the Constitution is not a bet I'd recommend making. Instead, here are some concrete actions you can do. First, if you're in a blue state, tell your state attorney general to intervene on behalf of WPATH.

You've probably seen that the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), along with four states with GOP attorneys general (Iowa, Nebraska, Alaska, and Texas), is suing the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). THREAD. www.ftc.gov/system/files...

they’re trying it 3 big ways right now (& a bunch of smaller ones). there’s an HHS rule to fight, too. under the proposed rule, any facility taking medicare/medicaid would be barred from providing trans care to any child even if medicare/medicaid isn’t involved. this one doesn’t even take a call!

hi, cis folks! today, congress votes on 2 bills —HR498 & HR3492—one bans medicaid funds for providers of trans youth care; the other criminalizes that care, imposing penalties including jail. either one passing destroys lives. we need you to call & tell your rep to vote no. tap into the 🧵for more

if they just call every complaint a title ix complaint it engages specific federal channels that presumably they believe the administration will be able to use to support them. so that's what i figure they're doing.

From the Oklahoma U student paper: the school is now saying it will automatically suspend faculty (with pay) in response to student complaints www.oudaily.com/news/ou-poli...
“During the course of the debate, it was disclosed that it is now policy of the university to suspend any faculty member with pay against whom a student has lodged a complaint. The faculty member is suspended under the Title IX program,” Schmeltzer wrote. “This was new information to everyone in attendance.”

For trans folks trying to parse the federal bills; this is my TL;DR: 1. The National Defense Authorization Act *will* pass w/harmful riders - it is a win that any were stripped out. 2. The GOP Healthcare proposal w/ban language *won’t* pass - it’s all messaging. Always worth calling your reps!

Tucked inside the Republican bill for health care subsidies, a clause that would restrict the money from being used for abortion (with exception for rape, incest or life of the mother) or for "any sex trait modification procedure or service." www.finance.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

While Maryland Gov. Moore posted about Trans Day of Rememberance, his state was torturing a trans woman by denying her hormones and housing her with men--according to her lawyer--for 2 months. All of this for "hate crime" charges from alleged vandalism of a trans symbol near a Catholic school.

both parts of this matter: this would be a near ban in all states; there’s a runway here where fighting back helps hold up falling sky for trans kids. every day matters. & if you’re like “it’ll be fine—they’ll just wait til after trump” i want you to recall what happened to *your* body from 14-17.
A near ban in all states
Both supporters and opponents of transgender rights agree that, taken together, the forthcoming rules could make access to pediatric gender-affirming care across the country extremely difficult, if not impossible.
The care is already banned in 27 states.
"These rules would be a significant escalation in the Trump administration's attack on access to transgender health care," says Katie Keith, director of the Center for Health Policy and the Law at Georgetown University.
"I think it's really, really important to note that nothing is changing immediately," she explains.
"These would be proposals that would go out for public comment, it would take months for the Trump administration to issue a final rule, and then, if past is prologue, we would see litigation over whatever the final rules are."

this is a relatively new and bizarre argument in the history of book bans btw—conservatives have rarely if ever operated from the position that libraries are “government speech” (?) they’ve almost always argued on the grounds of obscenity and the public good
