Note on Mathematics: If Hammersmith Council think raising a £1500 Band D annual Council Tax to £2500 is a "150% increase", the rest of their figures probably need re-examining. Its an increase of 66%. I'm also willing to bet they don't raise it >15% www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

A lot of them honestly *don't know* the achievements of the 1st 2yrs, because the UK Media tried to ensure they never found out. The others know perfectly well, but are just #trolls. They quickly expose their true nature & can be blocked.

I use the "Discover" feed, but I seem to get everyone I follow & interact with in my daily feed without any special effort. Presuably if you use the "Followed" feed you'd see everything from those you follow, but that seemed a bit "echo chamber" to me at the start, & I haven't needed to alter it.

BBC re-running their headlines from 3 years ago when Sunak released 10,000 prisoners early over 6 months....oh wait, no, that went off without a media fuss. Labour are releasing up to 5,000 early over a year - due to Tory failure to build prison capacity. They only built 36 net new places a year.

Coalition goes without saying in PR systems - its Government by consensus (which is surely a good thing). I can't really say I'd have a problem with being Governed by a coalition of Labour, Greens, LibDems & SNP for 20-30yrs. Im sure we'd have a functional country from a mixture of those policies.

Bryan Smith #RejoinEU @bpsmithuk.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Italy too. But that actually doesn't affect democracies as much as we're led to believe. 80% of World democracies use PR. The UK is one of only 4 major countries still using First Past the Post. (Others are India & USA - hardly renowned for functional government - & Canada).

If we had PR: (I've posted this before, but I doubt it was my post you lost). Restore might win a seat. Reform would probably win 50, because a lot of UK voters are racists, but they'd never form a Government. Labour & Tories would win 200 each, with LD, SNP, Greens at 50 each. No more Tory Govts!

The lack of tap water was due to breakdown of pumps (old ones, not serviced well), not absolute lack of water. Sewage in the rivers & sea is due to sold-off storge tanks, worn out & broken pumps & sewers that are too small for the load. Its all lack of investment due to private owners not caring.

I find it extraordinary that the UK - deservedly world renowned for being wet, grey & miserable for most of the year - ever has problems with water supply. We take it for granted & never bother to do anything meaningful about transporting it around the country to where its needed, & storing it.

John Healey will, according to reports, head into the Budget with a £4bn to £6.5bn chunk of his fiscal headroom having mysteriously gone walkabouts. The cause? A sharp drop in immigration to the UK. Almost as though migrants aren’t all just wandering around devouring taxes for shits and giggles.
bearlypolitics.co.uk
Net Migration if Falling - now the Treasury needs to Pay the Bill for it.
After years of promising that fewer migrants would relieve pressure on Britain, Labour is discovering that cutting migration also means cutting workers, taxpayers and economic headroom.

2/2 Solid wood furniture downstairs, all appliances on top of worktops, not under, solid wood kitchen cupboards (all marine varnished so they can be jetwashed). Id also ensure doors & windows could be sealed watertight, with a 2m brick wall & floodgates all round the property front & back.

If I lived (lets say) on the Severn banks at Bridgnorth, which floods every year, I'd fortify the house downstairs - walls & floor tiled like a swimming pool, non-return flaps on all outlets to sewers, water pumps in pits built into the floors, all power outlets at least 1+ metre from the floor. 1/2

It says in the story they can't get insurance now, without any more homes being built that increase the risk. I can't see the new homes being insurable, & they certainly won't be as durable to floods as houses built 70+years ago.

2 issues here: - If Persimmon build on a floodplain, & people buy those houses which later flood, its a risk they accepted on purchase. Don't buy, & they won't build. - Persimmon must ensure the development doesn't increase flood risk for existing houses www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

There is a problem in this (though it *needs solving*). To pay for it raising Basic Income Tax or Employees National Insurance by 2% means workers earn less, & *being out of work is more attractive & non-contributory*. LDs failed with "1p on tax for NHS". www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
