Does remind me of my dad when they moved to Ireland and it was all pre-single market and he spent years trying to smuggle boilers and electric drills and roof tiles into Ireland constantly being caught and fined by diligent Irish customs men.

This atmospheric woodblock print was made by Hiroshige in 1857. This artwork was greatly admired by Western artists in the late 1800s and was even being copied in oils by Vincent van Gogh in 1887. ☔️ Sudden shower at Ōhashi Bridge, Atake, Hiroshige Utagawa, I (1797 - 1858), 1857. EAX.4740

I love these stories but there's always something that came earlier. Innovation is a ragged edge, right? I've seen at least half a dozen other candidates for 'first filmed dialogue', including one from the 1910s!

He was unaccountably included in the recommended accounts list WAY BACK and accumulated millions of followers as a result. I don't know if I can plausibly connect that with his current status but you never know!

I'm still on Twitter. Honestly still quite useful, especially these days, now that it's all AI. Lots of interesting voices, not just from the accelerationist/EA loons.

I suppose you know that RNA covid vaccines given in the left arm don't work because of the clockwise structure of the molecules (I hope they advised you to stand on your head for ten minutes after the jab).

Certainly plausible. Do you remember that photo-op of Reagan with mujahideen in the Oval Office?

It's a slab of hipster architectural speculation from before the end of history. An implausible Koolhaas Argos catalogue that feels like it could only have come from before 9/11… My Amazon order history tells me I paid £28 for this thing, just after 9/11. So, obviously, £28 to you. ebay.io/m/HalMrt

So, hold on, Spizzenergi was the THIRD in the sequence of Spizz band names, coming after Spizz 77 and Spizzoil (also the first proper gig I ever attended, at the Bowes Lyon House in Stevenage). And 'Where's Captain Kirk?' was the band's first hit, reaching No. 1 in the indie chart. ebay.io/m/Woofyq

It's this fella's birthday. I mean Napoleon Bonaparte, not beautiful, wistful Albert Dieudonné, who played him in Abel Gance's gorgeous 1927 five-and-a-half-hour epic. Anyway, for the day that's in it, here's one of my favourite essays, about the film: bowbrick.substack.com/p/gross15-19...
