Barrett is odious. He thinks that being a barrister means he has some sort of intellectual superiority. If you analyse what he says, word for word, sentence by sentence, it is truly vacuous, quite bizarre and irrational nonsense.

Also see barrister Steven Barrett. If he waffles on in court like he does on X, never making a point but just hurling stupid insults, I’d be surprised if he ever won a case. (He himself says 95% of one-on-one cases ‘settle’).

I hope your gig at the Union Chapel will highlight the extraordinary amount of hounding and bile that The Daily Telegraph rained down on Mr Arday over the last couple of weeks. A disgrace.

So it’s being reported that Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Prince George will go to Eton. So much for the Wales’s ‘having the common touch’. Apart from that observation, who gives a flying one?

As a Barnet born-and-bred boy (Whetstone, Friern Barnet. North Finchley) all I can say is… good on them.

All this shows is how bloody stupid and gullible the British people are. The rhetoric about UK being a ‘tolerant, welcoming country’ is complete bollocks. The UK is a racist, intolerant, inward-looking country.

On the other hand, the bookies are usually the best predictors. I may even have a big bet on Forest to go down, it may soften the blow but pretty unethical!

botsworth.bsky.social @botsworth.bsky.social · 13/04/2026
I’m a Forest fan and to be honest, I’m not hopeful. Leeds are just a better team than the other three, and Hammers are on a bit of a roll. I think it’s between Spurs and Forest, and the manager will work the oracle at Spurs.

Most people, though, don’t understand that once people get here and claim asylum they have legal protection as asylum seekers and their claims must be processed, however they arrive (including ‘small boats’). The rhetoric around ‘illegal migrants’ is almost wholly at best misleading, at worst, lies.

I do know exactly what you mean. Meanwhile, let’s all have a good laugh (although it’s more serious than that) at the Reform House Journal (Telegraph) and the Mail’s response to G&D. ‘Rise of the Green Menace’ (Mail). I’m sure that was a Dr Who series in 1972….
000
botsworth.bsky.social @botsworth.bsky.social · 28/02/2026
The Mail, in competion with the Reform House Journal (Telegraph) takes its normal considered approach to a by-election result it doesn’t like. ‘The Green Menace’🤣. Is that a Dr Who episode from 1972?

Thank you. Maybe i was a bit over sensitive. I was (of course, this was the ‘60s) brought up to offer a seat to women, and I still, despite very dodgy 66-year-old knees, offer mine to people visibly less able to stand, or otherwise encumbered. To me,that’s the measure! 😇🤣

Zoë, I love your writing, but please explain why women(generically, as in your post) are less able to stand than men? Is ‘chivalry’ in and of itself, a progressive theme?

The bookies and the punting public look as they got it right. 4/7 Greens, 4/1 Reform, 11/2 Labour. Ie, Greens clear favourites. I’m going to look a right eejit if I wake up in the morning and Reform have won.

I keep reading that the Greens are the bookies’ favourites for Thursday’s by-election but i didn’t check because i thought it was neck-and-neck. Just checked Betfair. Greens are 1/2 - ie, 66% chance. Reform ~ 21% chance and Labour ~ 13%. Oh please let the punters be right.

‘Rebarbative’ is good. The think that gets me shouting at the telly is that she constantly interrupts and talks over people and then says ‘if I may, finish rather than you constantly talking over me’ when someone else does it.

Hi @simoncalder.bsky.social just for your collection of stories, I am in the passport queue at Krakow Airport. 45 mins so far, I estimate still less than half way to Border Control from where I started. Fun and games.

When is someone with an influential voice going to stand up and say loudly and clearly that under international law it is legal to cross the Channel to claim asylum, and once someone does, they have to be processed, fed and housed under the law. There is no such thing as an ‘illegal’ asylum seeker

RIP. One of my journalistic heroes. Always incisive, honest, and true to the BBC mantra of being informative and impartial. Love all his books. It feels like the end of an era, but then again, great correspondents such as Bowen, Guerin and Doucet carry his flag.

botsworth.bsky.social @botsworth.bsky.social · 12/01/2026
So Zahawi says there is an ‘avalanche of illegal migration that would be national emergency anywhere else’. Pathetic. It is not illegal to cross the channel to claim asylum AND France, Germany, Italy and Spain all receive more asylum seekers for the same sources as the UK does. Twat.

Yes, that could have been the end. But Diane and Bojack escaping the party and sitting on the roof together, just shooting the breeze and saying everything and nothing, is unbearably poignant. (And then people remind me that Bojack is an animated horse. But we know better!

So how do you explain the polls and the imminent victory of Reform in Wales? It may be terrifying, but the momentum is there. I see it every day in neighbourhood conversations, the media, social media, the polls and behaviour on the streets. I wish I shared your optimism.
130
botsworth.bsky.social @botsworth.bsky.social · 22/10/2025
I think the main problem this country has is that ‘most British people’ are not decent and do not have an inherent sense of fair play. That is a myth. Otherwise Reform would not be anywhere near their status in the polls.

Wow. Excellent responses by @heidialexander.bsky.social to what I thought was an unnecessarily shouty and over-assertive interrogation by @jeremyvine.bsky.social . Asking her to apologise for not ‘smashing the gangs’ in 14 months was absurd.
