He hasn’t ruled out another species and has consulted more widely. If it is confirmed as a different species species it would be a new UK record

Hi Emma, Michael Wilcox has examined a sample of the plant I took and has determined that it is Gamochaeta purpurea only 43 previous records in the database and 16 of those records in the last two years. It could possibly be spreading in the UK. Most records are in the south

@emmasartworks.bsky.social Hi Emma could you possibly give me a grid reference for the cudweed species you have found in Middlesbrough. I am the BSBI county recorder.

BSBI New Year Plant Hunt Our dream team of Ambroise, Barry, Martin and myself searched through Saltburn on the 2nd of January. Despite the bitter wind we did find an amazing 63 species in flower our highest total yet. We are currently in the top 20 in the UK.

@ambroisebaker.bsky.social Have you any suggestions for this plant found by Wendy English growing in the Beaver enclosure. To me it looks like Bidens cernua. The sessile leaves seem to suggest that. No achenes though. What do you think? There are only three records in VC62 of B. cernua

Having looked at the plant again I agree with you about it being rubrum as it’s not showing any signs of a cordate base to the leaves.

It could be but it is quite stunted it was raining heavily when I noticed it may go back and have another look. I found what looks like Chenopodiastrum hybridum on the sea wall near the car park in Saltburn.

@bsbibotany.bsky.social @teeswildlife.bsky.social Interesting find by James Harding-Morris in Coatham, Redcar of a plant which most people would just think is a “weed” Compact Dock Rumex thyrsiflorus This is only the second record in the whole of the UK It is a bit like Common Sorrel on steroids
