Today I Played - Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle A personal passion project by the legendary Yoshio Nishimura (Vanillaware, aka. Dragon's Crown/Odin Sphere/GrimGrimoire, etc) that plays out like a literal choose your own adventure book. #indiegames s.team/a/4508570

Today I Played: Retro Space Bit of System Shock, a bit of Bioshock, a bit of it's own thing really. Between the mutations you can pick up that fit with the narrative and the very System Shock like gameplay, this game was a welcome surprise out of left field. #indiegames #horror s.team/a/2067820

Today I Played: Cohen 1939 Think of it sort of like Peaky Blinders era Hotline Miami, it's a revenge story where you play as the widow out for blood. I'm about 60/40 on the experience cause the sound balancing is off during 'cutscenes' but I enjoyed my time with it. #indiegames s.team/a/3582120

Today I Played: Antivirus Survivors 2003 Professional A survivors-like with nostalgia and it was way more fun than I was expecting, my starting weapon was a bouncing DVD logo and before I knew it, I was shooting FPS counters and taking on the MSN Messenger logo. #indiegames s.team/a/3832490

Today I Played: Fatekeeper I've had this for a hot second but it actually took me awhile to get around to playing it, it's like a modern Dark Messiah in UE5 that somehow looks good and doesn't totally shit the bed like most UE5 games. It's mostly voice acted too! #indiegames s.team/a/2186990

Today I Played: House of Necrosis Have you ever wondered what it'd be like if Resident Evil was a turn based mystery dungeon horror? No? Me either, but it's here and it's actually pretty kick ass, it'll also kick your ass quite easily if you're not careful. #indiegames #horror s.team/a/2005870

There truly is no limit to the kinds of awesome things you can create, the gameplay systems are all fairly intuitive, the only real mini-game outside of the creative process is the first firing of your pottery which is basically a balance bar to heat it evenly. But it's all very relaxing.

Today I Played: Dimraeth I'm irritated cause I wanted to endorse checking this game out, then I found out they used AI to write their dialogue, they put so much work into everything else and then decided to cut corners in the worst ways, the dev knows they're in the wrong too. #indiegames

Today I Played: Woodo I might be doing a disservice to Woodo by posting so late in the evening about this game. This is a puzzle/diorama builder with an adorable story that accompanies each puzzle as you fill them out, I could not recommend it more if I tried. #indiegames #cozy s.team/a/2572040

Today I Played: Blackwood I honestly understand why this John Wick/Retro Rewind game sits at mixed, it's the definition of AA gaming, crazy attention to details to the small and medium things, while the experience largely overall is janky. More about the game below. #indiegames s.team/a/3639070

Today I Played: Welcome To Elderfield Think Strawdew Valley, if Junji Ito decided they wanted to take a crack at it, i'm not too far in myself yet, but there's a lot to love here as both a horror fan and cozy enjoyer. Combat is also turn based! #indiegames #horror #cozygames s.team/a/3195440

Awwhh man, those are some cool frogs! We've become a home for frogs in our area, we've thus decided they need a pond so that is the next project. Here is a baby frog in exchange for your frog photos.

Today I Played: Sheepherds! Took a week from talking about games, but we're back with a pretty awesome dog related one that you can play solo or with friends and sheep herd with silly puzzles, or achieve mini-games together, plus I can play an Aussie! #indiegames #dogs s.team/a/3006280

Today I Played: Crimson Moon Your mileage may vary on this game, I didn't have nearly as much an issue and if you're in the market for a Souls-like roguelike but Nightreign is too fast paced, give this one a try. #indiegames s.team/a/4317690

Today I Sadly Played: Billion Road [De-Listed] This one is a favorite of my wife and I, it's been de-listed for some time now but thankfully the multiplayer still works and it has local co-op. Think Monopoly meets Fortune Street, with wacky mini-games. s.team/a/1163040

Today I Played: Dragon Dragon Fire Fire Deluxe Like I said before with Donut Dodo, you don't see many games come across the desk that remind you of a true long last arcade game that never existed but feels like it should've. #indiegames #arcade s.team/a/4177670

Today I Played: No More Room In Hell 2 Did it launch perfectly? Hell no. Is it perfect now? Hell no, but it's sure as hell a lot more fun now than it used to be. Maybe one of the most interesting infection mechanics i've seen in a zombie game too. #indiegames #horror #zombies s.team/a/292000/

Today I Played: Eslabong I don't play Auto-Battlers all that often, but this one is a rare exception and man is it a damn good one, you can also technically take control, hire arena gladiators from a slew of different classes and wage war in the arena. #indiegames s.team/a/4560660

Today I Played: The One Fish Hesitant to recommend this one as it's recently given me more frustrations than fun times, but i'll still throw it out there for anyone looking for a fun arcadey fishing game with friends. I'll explain the game loop in the comments! #indiegames s.team/a/4883580/

Today I Played: Sludgineers If you're a fan of shorter games (I know i'm starting to be) this one is straight forward enough, you run a clean up company from your van sucking up purple sludge with a vacuum, eventually you'll upgrade to donors and other tools as well. #indiegames s.team/a/4073860

Today I Played: How To Fish This is a fun with friends fishing game. You'll catch them, shoot them in a very arcadey fashion and then sell them, or turn special ones in for customization items, there's also a roulette table to gamble your catches. #indiegames s.team/a/4001890

Today I Played: The Lantern of the Laughless Saint Is it pretty? Hell no, but it's an absolutely fantastic modern callback to its inspiration from Morrowind, so if you need a single player/co-op RPG that does it well? I recommend looking at this one. (Two thumbs up.) #indiegames s.team/a/3849000

Today I ALSO Played: Slayblade It's finally out and oh my god, it's as fun as I wanted it to be. Runs don't usually last all that long and it's not super difficult, but man does it nail that blading gameplay and for less than $5, I can give it a solid two thumbs up. #indiegames #beyblade

Today I Played: Afallon So this one is in the vein of yesterday's recommendation but not as well rounded just yet, but instead of a single player Everquest experience, this one goes for more of a WoW approach, it's a bit jankier but the dev has clear passion. #indiegames s.team/a/2597810

Today I Played: Erenshor In the rise of private server MMOs running locally w/AI bots so companies can't rip away progress from players, there are a few Indies are a similar concept so you don't have to deal with toxic communities only they don't use AI-powered bots! #indiegames s.team/a/2382520

Today I Played: Cult of PiN Listen i'm not normally a pinball kind of guy, but this one takes that and slaps some Lovecraft into it, then sprinkles it with some rogue-like dust. It hits the neurons and I actually enjoyed it, like a lot actually.. #indiegames #pinball s.team/a/3144340

Today I Played: Big Walk This game is an experience and the puzzles are fairly deep and require communication with at least you and one other, but up to as many as you want and they often leave you feeling smarter at the end. But boy are you gonna get lost. #indiegames #puzzle s.team/a/1478500

Today I Played: Katanaut Wait a minute, have I never talked about Katanaut? I know some of you are sick of roguelike/lites, but I can promise you there is fun to be had in this Vania style where the combat is fan-fuckin-tastic and the variety is heaps. #indiegames s.team/a/3032830

Pt.4 There's also a really neat mechanic because you're technically the living spark inside of the robot, so you can leave your shell at any time and scout around or even do a forceful push that you can weaponize to kill monsters by shoving them into a grinder, or off a ledge.

The Indie Boss @bosskernel.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Pt3. There are a number of monsters we've encountered thus far, including one that shoots a laser that spins 360 and another little bitey drone bot that flips upside down to shoot a grenade out of it's butt.

Today I Played: GRAIN ROT Admittedly I don't know if the name does it any favors, but the game is oozing charm with it's junkpunk aesthetic, think the movie 9 meets the movie Robots. Due to text limits i'll describe the game loop in the comments! #indiegames s.team/a/4450620

Today I Played: Restory I actually really love this game, it has a story that takes place during early 2000s Japan, but I often find myself just buying pre-owned items off the market, fixing them and selling so I can upgrade my tools/licenses, two thumbs up! #indiegames #japan s.team/a/3812600

WTF Did I Just Play?: Landlord of the Woods Short, macabre as fuck, puzzles are simple but they're really just there to deliver you more story. There's also a twist ending that gave me a chuckle, honestly for a dollar? It's worth 30 minutes to an hour of your time. #indiegames s.team/a/1564090

Today I Played - Meta Ghost: Breaking Show The concept isn't entirely new, you play as a handful of different hackers in a fight to the death reality show and the sponsors give you your upgrades each run. But the combat is stylish and it's very fun. #indiegames s.team/a/2507980

Today I Played: Carpet Cleaning Simulator Would you believe me if I told you this was a time loop game? Saw it through to the end, in a day destined to end the Earth via a giant meteor, you must clean enough carpets to earn enough to buy giant missiles to blow it up! #indiegames s.team/a/4634560

Today I Played: Herb Tea Man Has some growing pains that may only exist cause I played it in English, which can be spotty writing wise. But the gameplay loop itself is rather simple long as you can remember recipes and can get a little hectic with lots of customers. #indiegames s.team/a/3703200

Today I Played: Gurei Stylized roguelike boss rush-vania that accurately reminds me of Mega Man, tackle the bosses in any order but some abilities earned via bosses make others easier. You also only have a set number of lives of which increase with each victory. #indiegames s.team/a/2191280

Today I Played: The Forever Winter Amazing? No, but it is absolutely atmospheric and I haven't quite played something like it before, you're not the hero, you're not even really an asset, you're a scavenger in a never ending war, hide, loot, escape. #indiegames s.team/a/2828860

Retro Game Of The Day: Kingsley's Adventure With the death of physical media, I find myself revisiting my retro collection more and more, now days i'm not even sure a game like this gets made without being harassed and sued by one of the big companies for being too much like Zelda/Banjo Kazooie.

Today I Played: Morbid Metal Going for that Warframe aesthetic and does a rather great job at it! It's got the hallmark of a great rogue-lite too where the better you get to know the game the easier you slip into stylish combat. (Part 2 of impression under replies.) #indiegames s.team/a/1866130

Today I Played: Pathogenic It's finally out (since the 16th!) it's an incredibly well done little roguelike bullet hell, you play as a science experiment gone wrong, a scientist dropped a tube and cut himself and you made your way inside, now make him regret it! #indiegames s.team/a/3808690

Today I Played: Go-Go Town! Managed to tear myself away from Palworld for a bit, to also play this with my wife, it's essentially a solo/co-op tycoon game, but also a mix-mash of stuff like Factorio and early on some mini-games like Overcooked, we love it. #indiegames #cozy s.team/a/2195120

Today I Played: Ravenswatch Been slacking on putting up some indies because i've been bouncing around Palworld 1.0, the indies I have played lately have been sort of lackluster, so instead here's Ravenswatch, roguelike folk tales action meets Tribes of Midgard. #indiegames s.team/a/2071280

Today I Played: XeGrader plus Someone in the reviews actually already summed it up perfectly, it's Konami's Knightmare meets Tower of Drugal. If that's too obscure then try Zelda if it were a SHMUP, a very welcome gameplay hybrid to be sure. #indiegames s.team/a/4323520

Frustration: HEAVYDELIC Indie dev that has released into early access far, far too early as it's still in tech-demo stage and they're breaking multiple partnership rules, I suggest playing the demo cause man is it 90s MTV levels of gorgeous. See it before it's gone. #indiegames s.team/a/4332500

And in case anyone runs up against the people with the argument that people play more digital than physical media, I give you this post showing an Insomniac leak that tells a different story. When possible, people do largely still buy physical, sometimes even more than the digital counter part.
