Are the "mood of my game for 15 seconds" post still a thing? Anyway - my first serious attempt of crafting a FPS environment in @godotengine.org. #solodev #indiedev

Made some new #pixelart textures and sprites and wanted to test them. I was blown away with how easy and quick it was to create this simple test scene in @godotengine.org , 100% from scratch, crt-shader included. I think I'm in love 💙 #indiedev #godotengine #FPS

Just a small update to my game's logo and capsule images (giving them more breathing room, replacing old cube with a mouse that's in the game now) resulted in significant uptick in my daily wishlist gain. I was putting it off since a year. Let that be a lesson to all you #indiedev #solodev #gamedev
A side-by-side comparison showing an art style transformation for a game called "Snake in the Dark." The left image features a smooth, illustrated style with a rounded font for the title, showing a cute snake in an arched doorway looking at a glowing cube. A large red arrow points to the right image, which shows the same scene recreated in a pixel art style, with a pixelated font for the title and the snake now looking at a small, white mouse.

Blunt Blade and a Hundred Halls is a cozy, wholesome first-person slasher roguelite adventure game where a boy meets a friendly devil who lives in his basement walls and decides to feed him with his all-time favorite food: freshly sourced dungeon freak meat (yum!). #pitchyagame

I feel for you! I did all the pixelart in my game, and then made some drawings of the main characters in pencil (granted - I used a popular cartoon for some reference), traced them into pixel art, made two distinct variations... and I get a lot of comments that "my art looks AI". Screw this noise :(

This might have to do with Steam's new UI. A button linking to user's personal wishlist page is now prominently featured next to the main search bar. A lot of people are being reminded their wishlists are bloated and head in to do some housekeeping, removing the games they don't instantly recognize.

We've done a whoopsie linking assets and now the game is full of people in underwear. 100% leaving it that way. MiniCar Shop Simulator pretends to be a toy car retail sim, but is a social commentary/racing game. The demo is in #nextfest! Wishlist the game, please! store.steampowered.com/app/3661250

Snake in the Dark update! My current demo build has been approved for release! I'm not hitting that green button just yet, though. Plenty to do with the generous playtest feedback I got. The demo WILL BE available for Sokoban Fest, starting April 21st. That means... two weeks. Oh my.

Yes! I do, actually. It used to be Daft Punks soundtrack to the Disney TRON sequel, but recently it got replaced by Paweł Błaszczak's brilliant OST to The Ascent. I played the game a bit, and didn't love it much. But the soundtrack. Ooooh boy.

I wanted to make a joke about it, but I think this actually is a serious issue. Game like A Game About Digging a Hole or Powerwash Simulator, or even Cookie Clicker should come with a trigger warning. Games like this trigger my ADHD/OCD subroutines and I become a slave to the game until completion.

My day-job project is almost at launch date, so I have less time for solo-deving. Just played a couple of levels of my Snake in the Dark after a break from development and I'm second-guessing my color choices. I feel like the game could use more color and clarity. WDYT? #indiedev #indiegame

Plus there are some very decent open-source emulators that can be used as a wrapper. Yeah, I'm sure there's many options to put a GB Studio game on Steam... BTW. Finished the test rooms. :) Oh, and please check my solodev game in my bio - it's a mash-up of Snake, Sokoban, and Boulder Dash.

yeah. This is how you get your shitty "Sims 2 Legacy Collection" with 50% review score to the top of the "New & Trending" section. This is how big catalog publishers ALWAYS win on Steam - they will find a way to put Steams algorithms to work and circumvent its main idea: featuring what's best.

Boruta.dev @boruta.dev · 04/02/2025
The Sims Anniversary takes the top spot on new and trending on @steampowered.com. Notice the Birthday Bundle boasts a "Very Positive" review score with 160k+ reviews. What's in it? Free2Play The Sims 4 with 160k reviews and all of the paid products with very few ~50% mixed reviews. This is shady.

It's a 4x grand strategy. The fact that it's not turn-based doesn't make it an RTS, like having upgradable stats for your units doesn't make an RPG. That's my opinion and I could be wrong. However, seeing Stellaris there felt questionable. Same goes for Door Kickers, Shadow Tactics, and Total War.

Hello! I'm an industry vet recently turned solo-dev. I'm working on my very first solo-project - Snake in the Dark (store.steampowered.com/app/3198700/...). I would appreciate if you added me to the list :)

Somehow @steampowered.com always manages to bend the rules for the best-selling titles, resulting in Stellaris being featured in RTS Fest, because grand 4x strategy is close enough to real-time strategy. Thank gods GTAV was not part of the Cooking Fest, because you can sure cook meth in GTA Online.

Well, of course Snake in the Dark has yellow paint... sort of. Improving the tutorial readability I wanted to stick to non-verbal communication. I thought ideogram tool tips would do the job best, and while the game is mostly monochrome I thought "hey, yellow would stand out nicely!" #yellowpaint

This isn't a follow-up to yesterday's post, but here's Jon Blow being wrong again. "Braid creator Jonathan Blow on why Elden Ring has no ‘real’ design: “It’s a huge map full of a bunch of bosses" (Gameworldobserver dot com) NOPE, he didn't say that. Second image is what he actually tweeted.
Gameworldobserver.com headline "Braid creator Jonathan Blow on why Elden Ring has no ‘real’ design: “It’s a huge map full of a bunch of bosses”, accompanied by a portrait photo of Jon Blow and a screenshot of one of the Elden Ring's bosses.Original tweet by Jon Blow:
"Elden Ring doesn't really have design per se. It's a huge map full of a bunch of bosses with different attack patterns, and the sheer scale alone is interesting and impressive -- it is way bigger than anything previous both in physical size and amount of stuff."

Followed by::
"(But the amount of stuff is also kinda why there is no real design -- it is just, here is a bunch of stuff we put in a bag, here's the bag.)"

Lots of new followers, so I feel like saying "hi!" and welcoming you with my Slavic Smile. I'm Wojtek, I'm 43, I'm in the gaming industry since 2001. I love retro games (DOS, NES, GB), and I'm currently making Snake in the Dark, an arcade puzzle re-imagination of Snake and Sokoban (link in bio).

What the gaming industry needs now is a new Tetris, not the next The Last of Us. Games have always been a mix between a toy and a story. I believe the current troubled times in the game dev world are largely caused by a shift in balance in the last two decades. We need to put play back in games.
