Imagine a world where the third wave of ska didn't crest, and instead Bosnian turbo-folk filled our need for skronk metal:

Fellow Portland geezer former scenesters: you can go the Twilight Cafe any night of the week, have a gyros and tasty fries and a beer for less than $20, and probably catch a good band or three. This is Night Brunch, doing tight new wave with three-part vocal harmonies.

I used Solar Wholesale, they handled design and permitting and then shipped me a pallet with everything. I installed the panels and had an electrician help me get the wiring right before inspections by county and utility. Went on my garage, had the shingles redone earlier. Took me three full days.

Funny thing about an old but low-miles vehicle is the stuff that ages out before it wears out. Turn signal broke because the bulb holder had dissolved. Brake light didn't burn out, the contacts mushroomed until they shorted out. Headlights were dim because the reflector had oxidized into nothing.
A rectangular turn signal assembly with a good bulb in a rusted-out socketA hand holding an 1157 tail light bulb, the two soft-alloy bottom contacts are squished together from sitting in a socket for decades.A rectangular sealed-beam headlight unit sitting on its face. The back should be shiny but instead it's speckled and gray because most of the sputtered-aluminum silvering on the back has oxidized away.

From a thread - from royals to rural gentry, they've always chosen dominance over prosperity.
They would rather have a shrunken, diminished West, reduced to a rump while China dominates world commerce and diplomacy--if that means they get to act tribal and reign over the ruins of the West like petty tyrants.
They are, in other words, much like defeated Confederates after the Civil War, but on a grand scale.
When faced with a choice between prosperity and industrialism, at the price of giving up bigotry and dominance of others unlike themselves at home--and backward, nostalgic relative penury, with overlordship of "inferiors" at home in exchange--they pick the latter, every time.
This is to say, they don't want to "save" the West, not really. They just want to rule over it, like tribal chieftains and kings, while the rest of the world passes them bv.

DSA pols stop being weirdly shitty to your Black compatriots challenge: impossible.
Councilor Angelita Morillo called the package “fiscally irresponsible” and said it was a shame that the “daddy of the city”—referring to Wilson—had to make the final decision because the council couldn’t reach a compromise. (To that, Councilor Loretta Smith replied: “Who are you calling daddy?” Morillo responded: “He’s your daddy, not mine.” And Smith replied: “I have a daddy.”)

Mark your calendars. @mbcbrews.bsky.social is offering half price beer on the day we learn of Mitch McConnell's passing, and they're guessing it's gonna be on or after August 3 because that's the deadline for calling a special election:
FaceBook post by Minocqua Brewing Company:
Ok friends.
We're in the heart of the tourism season here in #minocqua, and we love seeing and talking to folks from all over America who make the pilgrimage to our flagship taproom in Minocqua and our "Home Away from Home" taproom in #madison.
Owner Kirk is going to give another one of his famous beer tastings in Minocqua today at 4 pm, and he'll definitely be advertising #halfpricebeerday--which we still believe will happen on or soon after August 3rd.
As a reminder, #halfpricebeerday is the day we're offering half priced-beer as a celebration of life for Mitch McConnell, the senator who refused to impeach Trump after the January 6th insurrection, illegally packed the Supreme Court with Trump loyalists who are now dismantling the rule of law in America, and who consistently voted to make the rich richer and the poor poorer over his last 40 years in office.
Why do we think this celebration of life will happen on or soon after August 3rd?
Because earlier this week, Democratic Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear told Katie Couric that he received multiple calls from government officials claiming that the 84 year old Senator had ALEADY passed away. If this is true, then McConnell's staff is covering up his death until it's too late for the Governor to call a special election--and that deadline is on August 3rd.
We don't think celebrating someone's death is morbid or classless, seeing as much of the world does the same thing for Jesus Christ every Good Friday. We'd argue that Mitch hasn't done nearly as much good in his life as Jesus did, so he should consider himself lucky that so many of us will be drinking cheap beer in his honor once his handlers finally unveil the "rigor tortoise."
