Preprint alert: We find that without DARPP-32 in the motor cortex, mice show impaired skill learning and, most strikingly, fail to form robust motor memories. Given DARPP-32’s enrichment in corticothalamic neurons, our findings reveal a causal role for the corticothalamic pathway in motor learning.

Preprint alert: Striatal neurons in the eIF4-tg ASD mouse show dramatically increased activity-dependent plasticity. Unexpectedly, this is NMDA-dependent, not dopamine-driven. Excess protein synthesis alone can generate aberrant plasticity. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

A study by @borgkvistlab.bsky.social published in Science Advances shows that dopamine modulates basal ganglia output not via DA receptors, but through serotonin and 5-HT1B activation. Findings in mice suggest a new mechanism relevant to #Parkinsons therapy. #Neuroscience 🧪 doi.org/10.1126/scia...

1/n. New paper from us: here we explore the mechanisms underlying maternal aggression in mice as a means of addressing how an individual transiently can gain access to a behaviour normally outside of its repertoire. Lead investigator Stefanos Stagkourakis (not on 🦋)🧵: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Maternal aggression driven by the transient mobilisation of a dormant hormone-sensitive circuit - Nature Communications
Mothers can fiercely defend their young, but how the brain triggers this response remains to a large extent a mystery. Here, authors show that a dormant, hormone-sensitive brain circuit switches on to spark maternal aggression during the lactation period.

Postnatal reduction of eIF4E overexpression in D1-SPNs ameliorates KCNQ dysfunction, hyperexcitability and ASD-like behaviours.
An imbalance between the direct and indirect pathways of the striatum has been implicated in the pathophysiology of ASD, which corresponds with an increase in repetitive behaviours and hyperactivity. ...
