I understand needing help and interns are great for that, but that is definitely problematic.

I met my friend sophomore year of HS. She was a free spirit who loved to dance. We lost touch around my junior year of college, but reconnected fifteen years ago. I'm so glad we did. She was always up for an adventure and got this homebody out of her house.

That's such a great story! How many little free libraries were there? Did she leave or take any books?

Nerd Girl @bookslover.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Yep. I was a GA in library school. I got money off tuition to go work in the college periodicals department. I learned more there than my internship.

Only two. I limit my holds just for the reason you stated.

My friend was the last of her immediate family. It definitely affected her. She recently passed. Her friends are determined to keep her memory alive for as long as we can. Sending hugs to you.

Also, library school internships should be paid. I paid tuition to go work for FREE for 120 hours.

Same with the loss of someone.

I didn't realize how bad Substack was. I unsubscribed my only two newsletters there. I enjoyed them too, but nope.

I hope she's found safe and sound!

The number of people still seemingly unaware that Substack has a Nazi problem means it’s apparently worth mentioning yet again that Substack has a fucking Nazi problem.

Donate them to your local library. HP still circulates at my library and the books get beat up. I'd rather replace it with a donated copy than having to buy one and give her more money.

I spent last Saturday and yesterday cleaning out my friend's house (we made a small dent). It's mentally and physically exhausting emptying out a person's life.

How did they find a vest and hat that small???

Nerd Girl @bookslover.bsky.social · 26/08/2026

They're only halfway decent buried under a lot of butter.

I lost a good friend over the weekend. F*ck cancer.

That is so unacceptable and I can't believe people are saying otherwise. People suck sometimes. OK, a lot of the times.

Some are super adept, but there is a decent amount who know nothing.

Librarian here. I can attest to the difficulty seniors have using all these apps. Some barely know how to use a computer.

I've had success making up an email. I usually use me@me.com.

ALL OF THIS!! Everyone's experiences are different. The gall of people to call stuff out because it doesn't fit THEIR narrative! Ugh. I can't.

I worry about her. I worry if she'll even make it out of the hospital. I worry how she'll survive if she gets out without a paycheck (she'll go to rehab next). She has no immediate family. She has a support system seeing her, but we don't have a ton of money. This whole thing sucks.

Nerd Girl @bookslover.bsky.social · 16/08/2026

She creates gatherings for everyone to go to. She's set up two girls trips that were fabulous. I visit whenever I can, but I want to do more. GoFundMe could be an option, but I don't see it getting the traction it needs to make a serious dent.

I have a friend in the hospital. She's been there awhile and will be there for who knows how long (f*ck cancer). Her FMLA will run out soon and she's got bills to pay. I feel so hopeless in how to help her. She's the friend who brings other friends together.

You might get sick of hearing this but if he keeps doing it I'm gonna keep saying it: this is an unconstitutional impoundment, violating both Congress' Article I spending authority and the 1974 Impoundment Control act, and immediately impeachable.

A quick word on Taco Bell: That's where we found the suspected lettuce, and it's not bc Taco Bell is gross. It's bc Taco Bell is REALLY GOOD at tracing product! Keeping track of exactly where they got their ingredients, & exactly what restaurants each shipment of ingredients went to!
