Welcome to Buffy's Corner, where I take a look at what's coming up this week on the blog! I'm linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly's blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer. I'm writing this on Saturday, and we have a big rainstorm on the way tonight. I'm looking forward to it! I discovered this week that Goodreads now has 1/4 and 1/2 star ratings!

The nitty-gritty: Clever, charming and romantic, The Killing of a Chestnut Tree is the perfect bite-sized, feel good tale for our times. I’ve been a fan of Oliver K. Langmead since 2015 when I read and loved Dark Star, and he continues to surprise me to this day. The Killing of a Chestnut Tree is a bit of a departure from some of his other books, but I love this new direction.

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I've recently added to my TBR pile. I'm still going to be linking up with…

Here we are in the last quarter of 2026! And I have one last "most anticipated" list to share. These are my five most anticipated releases for the months of October, November and December: October 2026 Most Anticipated: I'm happy to say I've already read two of my October "Most Anticipated" books! Find Me Where It Ends by Cassandra Khaw is an emotional story about a woman who wants to kill herself and the people and animals in her life who are getting in the way of that.

The nitty-gritty: A weird, magical story with nods to Greek mythology, Find Me Where It Ends is full of raw emotion and thoughtful reflections on life and death. “As it moved, Antigone saw proof again of what it was: its pelt seemed to eat the evening light. It was a negative space, a hole cut into the universe in the shape of the dog.

Welcome to Buffy's Corner, where I take a look at what's coming up this week on the blog! I'm linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly's blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer. You'll be happy to know I finally finished cataloging and shelving my "S" books, and I'm on to T. I'm hoping by the end of the year I'll be able to write up a post about my library.

September was a great month, reading wise! Not only did I post ten reviews, but four of those were five stars, which has never happened before! Now, I did have a few three star reviews, but overall I'm very pleased. And I don't know if I can even pick which of the five star books I loved the most. Below are the books I read and reviewed last month, linked to my reviews if you missed them:

The nitty-gritty: Lady and Lord Riven have one last magical adventure in this exciting conclusion to Stephanie Burgis’s lively historical fantasy series. As far as I know, this is the last bo…

The nitty-gritty: Lady and Lord Riven have one last magical adventure in this exciting conclusion to Stephanie Burgis's lively historical fantasy series. As far as I know, this is the last book in Stephanie Burgis’ delightful Lady & Lord Riven series, and I’m very sad! The author has created a fascinating fantasy world full of supernatural creatures, and I can imagine many more stories featuring Margaret and her vampire husband Lord Riven, but for now it seems their adventures have come to an end.

October is a doozy of a month for new releases, and of course I have so many I want to read. And this is only a small sample of all the October releases, so you can see why it's so tough for readers these days, lol. Luckily, a bunch of these are novellas, so I'll be able to squeeze more reading in.

My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I've recently added to my TBR pile. I'm linking up with Top Ten Tuesday, which was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana's blog. It's time for a "Fall Freebie," and as I usually do, I've found book covers in fall colors that remind me of turning leaves.

The nitty-gritty: A driving narrative, gut-wrenching emotion and plenty of horrors, both human and supernatural, make Crone a standout book of 2026. I’m not sure what I was expecting when I picked up Crone, but it wasn’t at all what I got! And that isn’t a bad thing. This is my first time reading Keith Rosson, so perhaps I would have been better prepared if I’d read one of his earlier books, but wow, this guy can write.

Welcome to Buffy's Corner, where I take a look at what's coming up this week on the blog! I'm linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly's blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer. It was a pretty chill week here. And I mean "chill" in both the nothing exciting happened and it was nice cool weather, lol. Today's Badger photo happened on the trail, when the hubby and Badger met his twin!

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information! Thank you to all the publishers who sent review copies my way this month, I am forever grateful! Here's what I received for review this month: Books in the mail for review:

The nitty-gritty: A young visual effects designer discovers the dark side of social media and fame in Alma Katsu's latest, a fast-paced, modern day cautionary tale. Alma Katsu has taken her knowledge of social media—she was one of the first social media research analysts—and turned it into a harrowing tale about the price of fame. Incarnate is a modern take on The Picture of Dorian Gray, and I absolutely loved the way the author took the core idea of the classic tale and twisted it into a horror story involving social media influencers and the pursuit of fame and beauty.

The nitty-gritty: A twisty, puzzle box of a story that moves through time and space in a carefully crafted narrative, Exit Party is another stunning entry in Emily St. John Mandel’s unique, futuristic world. “Go on,” Eddie says, with a smile,”you know you want to.” Swan Dive is all around me, and I’ve somehow misjudged the situation: this isn’t a room at all.

The nitty-gritty: Moody, dark and romantic, Bane Bloom combines intrigue and a bit of magic in an atmospheric setting, perfect for fans of Gothic romance. Sharon Lynn Fisher’s latest fantasy romance is the perfect book to cozy up to as we slide into the Fall spooky season! Bane Bloom incorporates so many of my favorite elements, like folklore, witchcraft, faeries and a delicious slow burn romance that ties everything together.

Welcome to Buffy's Corner, where I take a look at what's coming up this week on the blog! I'm linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly's blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer. I hope everyone had a good week! Our temps have dropped dramatically, to the point where I almost want to run the heater in the morning. But that's just wrong, it's only September!

The nitty-gritty: Hysterically funny, heartwarming and full of surprises, She’s a Doll is a weird, wonderful story of female rage and unexpected friendship. This is my first time reading Barbara Truelove, and it will not be my last. She’s a Doll is one of those happy surprises you experience once in a while, where you go into a book with no expectations at all, and before you know it, you’ve become emotionally invested in the lives of the characters and sucked into a story so strange it has no business working—but it does.

Welcome to Buffy's Corner, where I take a look at what's coming up this week on the blog! I'm linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly's blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer. It was a short work week, which was nice! My daughter's birthday is this week but we're not getting together until the weekend. I can't wait to see my kids:-) Otherwise everything is pretty normal with nothing exciting to report, although we had rain all day last Sunday and it was lovely.

The nitty-gritty: A visceral tale of monsters both human and supernatural, Newbourne Park is a bloody, terrifying story of hunger and survival. “You’ll soon come to wish we ate you too.” When I finished Jennifer Thorne’s last book, Diavola, I knew it was going to be hard for the author to top herself. But with Newbourne Park, Thorne hits many of the same highs but in completely different ways.

Welcome to Buffy's Corner, where I take a look at what's coming up this week on the blog! I'm linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly's blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer. There's a hurricane off the coast of California, although it's not supposed to touch down, luckily. We will probably get some rain from it, though. I am currently cataloguing my "S" books (author's last name that starts with S) and this is probably my biggest letter as far as quantity goes.

The nitty-gritty: Top notch horror elements and heavy handed social commentary combine with mixed results in this slow but entertaining story. There’s a lot to love in The Burn Line, the latest novel by horror podcaster Jonanthan Sims, but I also found this to be a frustrating read for a couple of reasons. The London Underground setting is so well done, and it’s perfect for a story about subterranean monsters.

The nitty-gritty: An outrageous, funny and feel-good story, Kiss Slay Replay explores relatable themes in a fresh, unexpected horror setting. “My story might not be a love story. But it isn’t a horror story, either. My story is mine, and it can be whatever I make it.” I can always count on Rachel Harrison for a good time, and in Kiss Slay Replay she takes things up a notch and delivers a funny, terrifying, absurd and heartfelt story about a thirty-something woman who is trying to make sense of her life after she breaks up with her fiance.

September is a HUGE month for new SFF book releases, is anyone surprised? (but not as big as October, just wait..) September is also the month of the female writer. I just realized that fifteen out of seventeen of these books are by women authors. My most anticipated book of the year comes out this month—Exit Party—and it's not the only one I'm dying to read.

It's a wrap on Summer of Horror 2026! I had a lot of fun, and it was even more fun having so many bloggers participate this year. Thank you thank you to everyone! This summer I read and reviewed thirteen horror books, which I'm very happy about. Below are those books and links to my reviews. I was also surprised that I was able to come up with so many lists and cover love posts, since I didn't really have any specific plans going into the event.

Welcome to Buffy's Corner, where I take a look at what's coming up this week on the blog! I'm linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly's blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer. Our weather is finally cooling off a bit, and this coming week the high for each day starts with a "7" 🙂 So I am very happy!

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information! Another month gone, another book haul! This month's haul is smaller than last month's, thankfully. And while I didn't avoid Netgalley altogether, I was very restrained. It's worth mentioning that I've already read three of these as well.

The nitty-gritty: Weird, complex and bloody, The Calamities brings big mob energy to a supernatural tale about demons and those that worship them. Chuck Wendig never fails to deliver epic, emotionally charged stories, and The Calamities is no exception. This is a big, sprawling, multi-character story that I’m calling “Game of Thrones meets The Dark Tower with a bit of…

Today's prompt is "Bookish Places I've Visited" but I'm changing it to Horror Themed Bookstores I'd Love to Visit! These are located in five different states, and most I've come across on Instagram.

Welcome to Buffy's Corner, where I take a look at what's coming up this week on the blog! I'm linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly's blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer. My week can be summed up in two words: hot and busy! And I don't see any change in the coming weeks either, lol. I have been reading a lot and that's a good thing, right?

The nitty-gritty: Zombies aren’t the only killers in this tense YA thriller, an exciting start to a new series. If you’re looking for a dark, gritty YA zombie story, then look no further. If We Survive the Night was unexpectedly violent, and the main character surprised me in more ways than one. This is a survival story with a twist, and I quite enjoyed it!
