I briefly thought about starting a YouTube channel where I talk about books while cooking my dinner (trying to make the dinner at least sort of match whatever book I'm talking about) but it turns out I already find cooking too stressful. Doing it on camera while talking was too much. lol

#Thrillsandchills Q5: Is this a trick question? Are other people able to regroup? 😆 All kidding aside, I rely heavily on my writing friends to keep me accountable, check in on me, and remind me that even small steps are steps in the right direction. Also, lately, my kids have been motivating me!

#Thrillsandchills Q4: Due to some cuts, I've got less days at my day job at least for the time being, so I've been very strict with myself in making those into writing days. I'm also setting reasonable goals, like 3000 words/week minimum instead of like...10,000 words/week. 😆 So far it's working!

#Thrillsandchills Q3: Oo fun! My kids and I always write these things down and then burn them in a fire on the solstice. This year I wrote down "self doubt" and "comparison."

#ThrillsandChills Q2: -BROKEN TRAIL- Clara always fails her resolutions and then spends the rest of the year beating herself up about them or asking friends for advice on how to do better. -ALTERED- Machie doesn't make resolutions. She prefers a more fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants approach to growth

General resolutions are to approach everything with confidence and positivity, and to take care of myself both physically and mentally.

The kids and I got super sucked into a new read aloud last night, so I missed #ThrillsandChills!! Good thing stuff on the internet never disappears; I'm going to answer a day late. 😂 Q1: My writing goals include finishing my WIP, final edits on my debut, and another revision of my last MS

Keep the cover love coming for my good friend @vesperdoom.bsky.social who just released THIS gorgeous cover today for their upcoming novel! Event Horizon X Star Trek, METROPOLIS DOWN is a scifi horror novel with a mm second-chance romance, personalized cosmic horrors, and a city within a spaceship.

Background shows a blue nebula in space with a book cover front and center. The cover shows an angled view of a neon-lit city within a spaceship and stars beyond. The title is METROPOLIS DOWN and the author is VESPER DOOM. Below the cover it says COVER REVEAL and above it says ART BY RONNIE JENSEN.

What are your thoughts on the idea of remaking something just to create something gorgeous. And is it still "creating" if what you create is largely a copy of something that came before?

Bookish Duck **add Broken Trail on Goodreads!!** @bookishduck.bsky.social · 29/12/2024

But didn't Herzog also borrow (copy? steal? give homage to?) the original 1920's version as well? I did warn you this would be stream-of-consciousness. 😅 So I'm going to cut it off here, but what are your thoughts? Those of you who have seen it, what did you think? Those of you that haven't...(7/8

Bookish Duck **add Broken Trail on Goodreads!!** @bookishduck.bsky.social · 29/12/2024

I think part of what bothered me is that many of the things that contributed to the visual beauty and to the overall quality of the experience on a whole were aspects that were copied from (that has a negative connotation. Maybe "giving homage to" is better) the '70s flick, so is that stealing? (6/?

Bookish Duck **add Broken Trail on Goodreads!!** @bookishduck.bsky.social · 29/12/2024

Which then begets the question: do we need something to be new and innovative to be "worth it?" What percentage of a remake needs to be, so called, "fresh?" This version of Nosferatu was gorgeous. Why do I think it's not enough to make something beautiful? Must it be new too? (5/?)

100 1

Bookish Duck **add Broken Trail on Goodreads!!** @bookishduck.bsky.social · 29/12/2024

I mean, sure, this one was much higher budget and in color and featured more boobs lol. It also delved a bit more (if memory of the other version serves) into the themes of expectations of females. But was it different enough to be worth it? Why not make something wholly new? (4/?)

100 1

Bookish Duck **add Broken Trail on Goodreads!!** @bookishduck.bsky.social · 29/12/2024

All that said, in many parts it was frame-for-frame identical to the '70's Herzog/Kinski version. ...which is a fact I'm still processing. I did *exactly* expect it to be different, but then, watching the thing, I wondered why the remake? Why do we remake old things and change so little? (3/?)

Bookish Duck **add Broken Trail on Goodreads!!** @bookishduck.bsky.social · 29/12/2024

It's incredibly well acted, and--though it veers overy flowery in parts (come on, it's gothic)--the script was on point. (I especially like the "appetite" line, of which I'll say no more to avoid spoilers. But that whole scene was my favorite). (2/?)

Bookish Duck **add Broken Trail on Goodreads!!** @bookishduck.bsky.social · 29/12/2024

Random stream of consciousness first thoughts on #nosferatu: The film is unarguably visually gorgeous, as well as auditory interesting. The sound mixing is incredible and lends itself to a visceral watching experience. (1/?)
