Today's Book of the Day is MONSTERLAND by Nicholas Jubber. The author travels to various parts of the world, searching for the origins of famous monsters (Godzilla in Japan, Selkies in Scotland etc). He uncovers the often dark histories behind these tales. Highly recommended!

Book of the Day 2 is THE ISLAND OF MISSING TREES by Elif Shafak. This beautiful, moving novel is partly narrated from the POV of a fig tree. It's a touching love story which deals with difficult subjects, including war, with great sensitivity.

I'm currently attempting to write a fantasy novel. I've been trying to write it for around 4 years. It currently exists in 3 different versions: the Fantasy version, the YA Fantasy version, and the subtler, magical realist, is-any-of-this-magic-stuff-actually-happening version. I am so confused.

Teesside author Mike Edwards will visit Book Corner on Saturday 14th June, 11am - 12.30pm, to sign copies of his debut novel #Riverskin. I can highly recommend Mike's beautiful book. It's set in and around the River Tees, and features our very own local water spirit, Peg Powler.
