24 whistlestop hours in Helsinki, to finally meet the Housemarque team after five years of working with them. Yes, I did a sauna.

Oh yeah! SAROS was released yesterday. Please do buy it if sounds like your cup of tea. It includes a story written by me - and most importantly, probably the most exciting shooty-bang action you'll play this year. People really dig it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=THWa...

Sitting down to play the release version of Saros myself. I believe this is the first time my name has snuck into something's opening credits. My kids finally looked at me with a fleeting modicum of respect.

Saros pre-orderererers got an early head start playing it last night. Absolutely rubbing my hands with glee watching people chew over our story and delight in the action on Reddit already.

(sorry for Saros review spam. I only get to do this like once every half-decade.)

"Saros works best when it’s a mystery box with each snide remark, questionable text log, stuttering flashback, or deranged voice memo coloring in the lines of a more frightening truth. Arjun’s a layered protagonist... as challenging to reckon with as the monsters living under Carcosa’s obscured sun"

Alec Meer @bonzrat.bsky.social · 24/04/2026

Tho IGN is a bit lukewarm, this is pleasing: "Saros has some of the strongest use of readable data logs I’ve seen in a while. There's some great writing that provides insights in the form of reports, employee data, or diary-like entries which create a thematic texture that's genuinely effective"

"Saros sets up a gripping mystery. The web that unfolds as the player picks up more text logs, audio messages, and speaks to the rest of the crew is Housemarque at its best. [It] will inspire fans to argue over lore, character fates, and more for years." www.videogameschronicle.com/review/saros...

Sorry for politics, but autistic & other special needs kids are the next govt punching bag. Their 'reforms' will leave kids like mine without hope. Our only prayer now is contacting our MPs, in case it can be voted down in parliament by a narrow majority. Explainer and letter template in reply.

Work and especially life has been ultra-hard. Zoids-based therapy has been essential. Turns out customising newer ones to look like older blue'n'red ones is my happy place.

The last mile of dev from the narrative side involves dealing with a tsunami of questions from translation teams. On the one hand, it is a massive headache. On the other, it's a keen insight into how the world is gonna interpret what you've done, and some surprising cultural variances.

There was a planned but unreleased red version of Ultrasaurus for the 80s Zoids Euro line. Red Zoids are best, ofc. Therefore I've been busy.

Alec Meer @bonzrat.bsky.social · 20/01/2026

I also picked up a Zoids holy grail, the enormous if desperately slow Ultrasaurus. Involved a 90 min road trip to a very a strange house, then a day clearing a gruesome, inch-thick layer of someone else's dead skin cells off every part, plus disassembling the dead motor. I loved every moment of it.

Love to be closing a major videogame while my neurodivergent 7yo has completely stopped attending school. One of these weeks I might actually leave the house again.
