I think another thing people forget is that Dark Souls 1 was more of an immersive sim than anything else and most of the appeal of the combat is how most of the game was about optimizing how to do it as little as possible.

Wish someone told me sooner that's how life is because now i feel like an extremely naive person in a world that's out to get me. I know it's my responsibility now of course but it feels like my young adult years have been progressively learning that my parents unintentionally sold me a fantasy.

This piece is almost entirely composed of photographs I took. It features a central long corridor that disappears into the darkness, every side of it a different texture. The left and right walls are photos of old walls, the ceiling is wood, and the floor is an enlarged photo of a gingerbread cookie I bought in a Polish shop in Ljubljana once, overlaid with an assortment of Turkish delight from Lidl. I've had these two photos for like 3 years and I'm so happy to finally put them to use lmao

In the front, slightly left stands a knight, who was traced with a lasso tool over a relief sculpture from Celje. He's wearing a dark armour with very colourful accents on skirt and flag, and his head is a fire. On his knee guards, one can spot a unicorn and a stag beetle in trans flag colours.

In the upper right corner, a dragon's head is sticking out of a wall, the fire it breathes joining in with the knight's fire hair. For this head I used a photo from an ornament on one of the 'healing springs' near my hometown. It's coloured in somewhat garish colours that reoccur across the picture, magenta, aqua, green and blue, and notably three of its fangs depict the white, pink and blue or the trans flag.

Lastly, underneath the head stands a skeleton, cut from the famous Danse Macabre fresco from the Holy Trinity Church in Hrastovlje. The skeleton is orange with green shadows, and splashes of magenta on some parts of its body.

Like the titular Dark Souls 1 that somewhat started the discourse on social media ironically has very little need for a difficulty slider and much more need of a level up system that doesn't hide how stats are actually calculated with a complex math function and hidden cap.

We probably agree on the broader strokes. I just wanted to highlight that i think there's a tendency to oversimplify issues into a "this game lacks difficulty modes" when i think sometimes accessibility comes in the form of simple things like good menus and transparency.

If i had the time i could make a documentary on what i really think about "difficulty options" not because i have a really strong opinion but because i think the discussion in social media is really oversimplifying something that's worth talking about more granularly.

My entire opinion on the subject is too long to express here but i think my main point is not that difficulty options are bad it's just that difficulty options are sometimes not even related to solving the issue of player with varying skill level,etc.

I'm not even coming to this from the angle that people who think dark souls is too hard are dumb if you know what i mean. I think accessibility options are extremely important but i reject the idea that adversity in games lives in a flat axis. 1/?

I think it's a good first boss because you can straight up kill him in like two stamina bars if you circle him the right way because he misses you completely. If you play dark souls like gamers think you should play dark souls he's harder even.

I kinda disagree on this one. Sometimes the player has to meet the game where it's at. It also supposes that there's a right answer for how difficult a game should be.

I think bayonetta works because she knows she's hot and does it confidently and it's fun seeing her fight and show off. Lots of games just put a blank slate of a woman in a very exaggerated body and call it a day.
