My coping mechanism over the things I can’t control this year is to get tattoos and last month I realized I could blast over these stars I’ve hated since the day I got them.

For {redacted reasons since bluesky doesn’t have private accounts} my horoscopes choosing violence today is the funniest thing imaginable.
YOUR DAILY HOROSCOPE
Say what you're thinking. Even if people think it's weird. Even if it causes drama in the comments. You don't need to fit in with everyone.
When you hold back your hot takes, life gets boring. Sure, your thoughts might challenge certain people, but they might also inspire others. You won't know unless you put them out there.Your day at a glance

You are famously loveable.

It turns out this washing machine incident was great because, emboldened by repairing a washing machine, Rhasan felt confident to install a door to my studio closet, replacing the death trap of a bookcase on wheels my mother had there.

I reread Fahrenheit 451 for the bit last week and ai summaries are At long last, we have created the Torment Nexus from classic sci-fi novel Don't Create The Torment Nexus
Fahrenheit 451
Beatty peered at the smoke pattern he had put out on the air. "Picture it. Nineteenth-century man with his horses, dogs, carts, slow motion. Then, in the twentieth century, speed up your camera. Books cut shorter. Condensations. Digests, Tabloids.
Everything boils down to the gag, the snap ending."
"Snap ending." Mildred nodded.
"Classics cut to fit fifteen-minute radio shows, then cut again to fill a two-minute book column, winding up at last as a ten- or twelve-line dictionary resume. I exaggerate, of course.
The dictionaries were for reference. But many were those whose sole knowledge of Hamlet (you know the title certainly, Montag; it is probably only a faint rumor of a title to you, Mrs. Montag), whose sole knowledge, as I say, of Hamlet was a one-page digest in a book that claimed: now at last you can read all the classics; keep up with your neighbors. Do you see? Out of the nursery into the college and back to the nursery; there's your intellectual pattern for the past five centuries or more."

For art history this week we had to do sketches in the style of 4 pre-set artists. It was way more fun than I expected, and also demonstrable proof that practicing drawing does make it easier. I am so much better than I was a year ago.

This was a phenomenal read about the expectations of respectability in art made by Black women with a deep dive into 4 artists who don’t conform to them.
Black Women's Visual Work

From womanist theology to public intellectual discourse, Black women's visual work in the United States has been synonymous with kinship, sis-terhood, mothering, and reproduction. To heal the ruptures caused by slavery and its afterlife, metaphors of kinship have been used in Black aesthetic and womanist discourse as means for imagining bonds and obligations between individuals of African descent and their communi-ties. Restoring fragments of identity and cultural history to some sense of wholeness also animates much of the literature on Black aesthetics while Black women have historically been constrained by protocols of behavior, reproductive value, and aesthetics in the public and private sphere. In the art world, these protocols materialize in expert and lay expectations that Black women artists address their work to slavery and its legacies in order to effect racial healing and empowerment, to thus testify to and ultimately redress the sociological, economic, environ-mental, spiritual, and physiological conditions of their own subjugation
