Which demographic are you referring to? Nobody is born to hate the Jew or indeed anybody else.

It’s amazing how quickly they’ve gone from harmless idealism to racist zealotry. And to think I voted a couple of times for Caroline Lucas. Smfh

Although it feels like I am shouting into the void about this sometimes, I want to share some further thoughts on the “Zionism is Racism” motion which the Green Party is due to debate in the next 16 hours. Just to address various points which I think people in general should know. A thread:

The need to commit to making Gatwick the hub airport. Bigger trains must follow that!

Jim Whitlam @bocklam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Gatwick is a decent source of connections which solves for that and avoids the need to go to London (obviously a connection of any kind adds complexity but it’s pretty easy there). Just think a new line from the north east specifically is pointless.

The thameslink from St Pancras solves pretty much all the inconvenience of travelling from the north to the south coast. Certainly the Sussex coast at any rate. It’s just so easy from kings x.

I was thinking it would be more prevalent for million-sellers than for literary darlings. But I suspect it isn’t and it’s just as likely.

This is some great work all round.
A post from Stephen about some of the weaker elements of the British music charts and a message (much) further down the thread about Barry Goldwater. We can only surmise how it got from A to B.

That pink - works so well in the Miami sunshine. Less so in the London gloom. (If they get that far of course.)

At one point I feared him being an architect would result in a smooth, successful build. Feeling more confident now. #GrandDesigns

Stockholm, Budapest, Warsaw and Amsterdam (4 of the first 5 I googled) now wondering how they get above the 60th spot in the top cities and capitals chart.

A threefold sin then: ignored the signs, ignored what everyone else was doing, and then the abuse.

TFL thing - they have the signs. Mainline train stations in London don’t have the signs but the convention followed (mostly). Outside of London not a convention in my experience.

Dolly was always a walking symbol. For love and acceptance of others, reading, vaccines, tits, whatever. Only good things. That’s why we loved her.

Chanting is very much the preserve of only a few team sports anyway: football of course and rugby to an extent. Not much otherwise. The shouts at the olympics tend to be of the “come on Jess!” variety. It’s a different vibe I think - more celebratory and less angst-ridden than watching footie.

A south Yorkshireman’s hat left at a site symbolic of West Yorkshire. This tells me one of two things: his friend doesn’t understand Yorkshiremen and is doing something against what he would have wanted (which is funny), or it is what he wanted (which makes him even stupider).

Given the fact that they haven’t and so there isn’t an obviously sane obviously right wing party around - what chance the Lib Dems play up their right flank more and shift their image? What would be the cost to davey if he tried that? (Or tried it more obviously.)

I remember when they first came out thinking what a boon they could be for the less mentally stable folk I’d see walking round my part of south London holding conversations with themselves out loud. Stigma removed instantly!

My Australian other half called it little lunch when at school. Is aghast it wasn’t universal here - milk time being a poor alternative in her view.

My Aussie in-laws demonstrate similar - lot of words not used much here since the 50s/60s but still widely used there. My theory is that was the last time our cultures were fully entwined. The Whitlam govt (no relation - alas) made the separation wider and allowed language to develop independently.

Been watching the Paul Heaton night on BBC2 and this from the New York Times is a pretty perfect description of Beautiful South (and Paul in general) "music by Mary Poppins, lyrics by Charles Manson"

As a minimum they need to go down the Profumo route: years of good deeds that the public knew nothing/little about until he died.

Given that Reach themselves have removed much of the localness of the Derby Telegraph (or Derby Live as the identikit online presence is called) I think that argument is stronger if just applied in general but not this specific case.
