This has been a common sight this month. The water in the rain gauge represents 2.76 inches / 7cm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. For three years I have been contributing daily precipitation reports to CoCoRaHS.org/@cocorahs.bsky.social. I'm one of the yellow dots on today's map. 🌱

This is the rain gauge I use to measure the daily precipitation which I report to CoCoRaHS.org, the largest source of daily precipitation observations in North America. It’s easy, fun, and rewarding to participate.

The central cylinder measures one inch of rain / 2.3 cm. The overflow fills the outer cylinder. The rain in the gauge in this picture measured 2.76 inches / 46 cm.

This is the CoCoRaHS map for southeast Florida showing rainfall measured by volunteers throughout the region (9/23/2026). Each dot represents one backyard rain gauge reporting precipitation from the previous 24 hours.

I have tried several varieties in the past, and am currently growing only one: Louis Philippe. It does very well in our hot, humid climate. Do you grow roses in Brazil?

Beautiful to see. What variety do you plant? My father, who was born in 1904, remembered the great American chestnuts just before the blight struck.
