It's unconcerned with how much it throws at you, maybe the most of the first three so far, but the payoffs, prose, & characters are so good. Malazan successfully stands on a knife edge between feeling borderline grimdark, while answering with beautifully poignant moments of compassion and humanity.

It only took me the better half of a year (due to picking it up & putting it down, reading other things, ect) but I've finally finished Memories of Ice. I've been enjoying Malazan since Gardens of the Moon but this book really cemented the series as a new highest standard for me.

The Furious will probably be my favorite action movie for this year pretty handily. Every fight scene has an increasing amount of "how the fuck are they built like this", this is peak martial arts cinema.

The way Kushana is written in the Nausicaa manga feels so rich compared to the film. I love that she serves as a parallel protagonist as opposed to a full on villain.

Rereading Nausicaa. Man learning that Anno wanted to do a Kushana spinoff isn't shocking, but it's extremely funny that Miyazaki told him "no". Solid reasoning tbh, he probably would have done that.
