So the USA can bomb the whole of Iran but you don't think Iran should ever touch the USA? OK. It's a view.

The only thing resembling a revolution that's happening in France is the likely election of a proto-Fascist president next year, a catastrophe that might have been avoided if the Left hadn't obsessively and self-destructively undermined every centrist, liberal PM who tried to reform the budget.

It might be true and it might be untrue. We have no idea What I do know is that you are naïve to think that Iran has no desire to damage US military assets. Have you noticed there's a war between the two countries?

This is a stupid, selfish thing to do. Destroying schools is really upsetting for communities and destructive to children's education. Utter madness.

It isn't an oxymoron to say "defensive attack". If the Trojans had attacked the Greeks' ships on the Aegean as they sailed to Troy, would that not have been an act of self-defence?

Probably not that good a thing if Iran takes the message that threats from it to the UK, whether real ones or not, can result in a change of military posture. It's an encouragement to Iran.

You are not worried that the Greens are going the way of Labour under Corbyn? Internal rancour, split between MPs and members, division between members, factionalism, perceived anti-Semitism, public disquiet, legal problems, EHRC, leader without credibility, electoral under performance?

What it comes down to is this. If you’re determined a motion on Zionism isn’t seen as antisemitic, you pass this amendment. Obviously. It was instead rejected twice. First in a pre-conference meeting re: all amendments, then by conference members in the hall. This is now what the Green Party is.
Suggested amendment: This motion shall not be used to pressure, proscribe or discipline members based on affiliation with Jewish community institutions, such as Synagogues, community centres or denominational groups, that describe themselves as Zionist, or used to discipline or sanction Jewish members for holding views that would be non sanctionable if expressed by non Jewish members (such as supporting a binational state, or two state solution).

The amendment was rejected.

You presumably want to remove childcare allowance from those earning £60,000 or thereabouts. No childcare help if you're promoted is quite a bold policy pledge you're thinking of there.

Badenoch raised it in a typically inept and insulting way but the cliff edge is criticised by most progressive tax commentators, eg Dan Neidle of Tax Policy Associates.

You're welcome. There's an oddity in the tax system, whereby the tax rate goes up to 60% for salaries between £100k and £125k and then goes sharply down when they climb above £125k. www.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics...

Those people currently destroying the Green's are so obsessed with their own superior morality and the 'rightness' of their beliefs they can't see what many of them actually are which is antisemites. Yeah you can be young, progressive, 'believe all the right things' and basically be an antisemite.

Whatever one's lack of sympathy for people in that salary band, it is not a sign of a well designed system that tax take shoots up and then goes down again. There is evidence of people avoiding promotion and reducing their hours to escape the financial hit.

Cutting 70%+ marginal rates should be a Tory priority
If I was a Tory Chancellor, I wouldn’t abolish inheritance tax. I’d fix the ridiculous marginal rates that mean there are hundreds of thousands of 30-somethings paying more than 70%

After £125k the tax rate then goes down. The 60% tax trap between £100k and £125k is an anomaly that does deserve to be smoothed out. The cliff-edge loss of child care allowance at £100k is another undesirable feature of the tax thresholds.

B O'Brien @bobrien.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Not quite. After £100k you lose £1 of personal allowance for every £2 above £100k. Eg the tax take on the portion of salary from £100k to £110k would be 60%.

Did they not mean 45p on every pound above £100k (in which case they were understating the tax rate)?

There's a very good argument to replace the £100k cliff edge with a taper but this - "What we want to see is that people who work harder don't get punished for doing so" - is very inept. The argument is that it makes no sense to encourage people to suppress their earnings (by reducing hours etc).
