This has been the craziest thing for me coming to baseball as a cricket fan. A ball in Test cricket is used for 80 overs which is roughly a full day, and if it gets too damaged the umpire has to find a replacement with a similar level of wear.

Very cloudy in Edinburgh but a few glimpses of the sun not long after maximum. Too dim for the slotted spoon but pretty impressed with the image of the chimneys using the binocular method.

Blessed eclipse day! I was very lucky to see the 2017 eclipse from the mountains of central Idaho. Not looking quite so promising for Edinburgh this evening.

Took my four-month-old to an early morning screening. He loved it, although he thought leaving out the Polyphemus "I am no-one" gag really undermined the wittiness of the Homeric Odysseus. (they obviously turn the volume down and lights up for baby showings)

Without watching this video, I would interpret the sign as suggesting I cycle into the 'waiting area', and cross the junction whenever there's a break in traffic. Which would be harder and scarier than a normal right turn.
