Albums from 2025 & late 2024 that have been on heavy rotation. My favourite 3: Tweedy’s impressive sprawling 3LP effort. Just wonderful. So many great songs. Cameron Winter. Heavy Metal. A unique voice. Is he taking the piss? Van Morrison’s Remembering Now. His best album in a decade… maybe

Another book recommendation. #Underland by #RobertMacfarlane. Incredible journeys under the earth’s surface. Communicating tree roots & fungal networks, caves, catacombs, cities beneath cities, meltwater, glacial moulins, underground rivers. Maybe avoid if claustrophobic #BookSky #books

4/4 Q7. Unlike any other book I’ve read. Amazing Part biography, history, science, & also the interconnectedness of things. Flanagan covers HG Wells, War of the Worlds, Einstein, WW2, POW camps, Tasmania, colonialism & more, going full circle & blending in how it all relates to his own existence.

3/4 Random notes by Tom Cox. Whimsical, funny. Favourite line that I can totally relate to (& pleasingly show my wife): “Everyone has their own individual sneeze & it's very important to be comfortable with that. Never try to sneeze like somebody else. It will totally fuck you up”

2/4 A deep dive into a favourite Dylan song. Markhorst’s analyses always insightful & enjoyable. Makes me seek out & listen to the live recordings & other connected songs he refers to. #bobdylan #bobdylanbooks

New vegetation on Kangaroo Island rising like a phoenix from the ashes. Some of the plant species absolutely rely on fires to release their podded seeds. It’s a beautiful landscape out here. #southaustralia #australia #kangarooisland #australia #trees #bushfires

The stark, skeletal remains of the scorched trees on Kangaroo Island, burnt in the 2019/2020 fires, look amazing. In many areas they are heavily surrounded by new, dense, green vegetation. #southaustralia #australia #kangarooisland #australia #trees

I also worked out (time difference included) that he was probably in the studio recording Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat when I was busy being born.

I’ve been doing this for years but I’ve called it “what was Bob doing when he was my age?” New horrifying game to play: "what album had Bob Dylan got to by my age" I’m at Things Have Changed - almost at “Love & Theft”. Peak Bob!

" sure, sex is great, but have you ever cracked open a new notebook and written something on the first page with a really nice pen?". Lovely line in The Notebook by @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social .

Cover of The Notebook by Tom Cox. Also features a woodpecker, some vinyl records, a pile of paperbacks and a hedgehog in the bottom right hand corner.

“I said hey hey my my” - Neil Young lyric in Empty Trainload of Sky (which is also set to the tune of Dylan’s Things Have Changed). Turf the Gambler. Set to the tune of Dylan’s John Wesley Harding. What We Had. Call back to Neil Young’s song Lotta Love. Plenty more, I’m sure.

2/2 The #Qmagazine review for Bob Dylan’s Oh Mercy. October 1989. Described as “Gothic”. There’s no disputing that it was an incredible release at the time. #bobdylan I’m very surprised to see that I used a highlighter! I must have been super-excited.

Can’t fault your top 5! Although I’d often place Blonde on Blonde at 1 when doing these things, Love and Theft is actually my favourite. Really love Modern Times and Street Legal too. The mental gymnastics I’d have to do to rank them all would drive me nuts.

I always enjoyed reading Mojo & Q mags. They had it all. Great stories about my favourite artists & the best album reviews. The first ever Mojo mag was released Nov 1993. Stories - Dylan meets The Beatles, & a great Von Morrison write up. @mojomagazine.bsky.social #bobdylan #thebeatles #vanmorrison

Film was released in Dec 2024. I haven’t seen it but we saw the theatre production. Actually not terribly memorable but I’m sure it was ok.
