Over the last few years, I have met many people determined to make sure newborn babies are screened for SMA, and worked with them to see this programme start. Early detection - before symptoms show - can be life-changing. I hope this programme continues to succeed + helps families all over Scotland.

Visited the Lord Provost's Peace Garden yesterday, on the 81st anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki. It saw Dr Hiro Shimai lead the planting of a new tree, grown from seeds of a tree that survived the bombs 81 years ago. Scotland, and the world, will be safer without nuclear weapons.

I recently met with SPT to discuss their plans that are currently being developed to operate a franchised bus system. I'm supportive of their plans and hope to work constructively with SPT+ScotGov to maximise the prospect of success. It will deliver a more strategic approach to planning bus services

The Scottish Govt try where they can to offer additional support to our unpaid carers. A good example is Carers Allowance Supplement. This is an extra payment, paid twice a year, to more than 96,000 carers in Scotland - it's not available anywhere else in the UK. More: mygov.scot/carers

I submitted a motion in Parliament calling for the Abolition of the unelected House of Lords. It continues to be an affront to democracy. Despite Labour pledging to abolish it for the last 115 years, they have delayed even the most modest reforms. Its time is long up, it is time for it to go.

I asked the @scotgov about the work it is doing to support households at risk of fuel poverty. The investments being made are v. welcome. It highlights the need for a Social Tariff. The UK Govt, who have the powers, need to bring in a Social Tariff to lift 135,000 households out of fuel poverty

There has been significant concern over the UK Government’s National Insurance increases on employment. Despite that we have thankfully saw unemployment fall to 3.7% in Scotland. It has risen to 5% in the UK (ONS figures July to September).
