New blog alert! ✍️ John tells the story of the Kelvin Dock, the pub that served the community from 1848 until 2024. Its name isn't a coincidence. It comes from the old graving dock on the Forth & Clyde Canal, just along from Lock 22, where ships were repaired back in the canal's working days.

🔍 Zoom in: the boatman. This boatman, caught mid-pull on a rope, isn't the only one in the building. A stained glass panel made for the Burgh Halls just a year before the painting, by artist Stephen Adam, shows another boatman at work, this time walking a horse along the towpath.

🔍 Zoom in: the lock gates In 1879 at Lock 22, James Lauder was 1 of 5 lock keepers responsible for every boat passing through Maryhill. One mistake at these gates could hold up traffic for hours. Visit the exhibition: 📆Mon-Fri, 10am-5pm + Sat, 10am-3pm In partnership with Scottish Canals.

🔍 Zoom in: the horse outside the cottage One horse could pull around 50 times what it managed on a cart, which is exactly why almost every boat on this stretch of canal, before the 1870s, was horse-drawn rather than powered. This one's likely mid-break, resting before the next haul.

🖼️ Meet the painting behind our new exhibition 'The Canal Locks, Maryhill' was painted in 1879 by Andrew Maclaren Law, and it's a quiet, ordinary scene: a boatman at work, gates, boats, rooftops. Law was a lithographer by trade, someone used to working every inch of a surface, and you can see it.

🖼️ New exhibition alert! Every picture tells a story, but you have to look closely to find it. That's exactly what we did with one painting from 1879, and it turned out to hold far more than we expected. The exhibition opens this Thursday and has been put together with @ScottishCanals.

Last few days to catch the excellent wee exhibition on the history of @partickthistle.bsky.social at @maryhillburghhalls.bsky.social. My fav was the mascot section. Also theres a good cafe in the burgh hall!
Almost indescribable image of former PTFC mascot Harry Wragg, supposedly a thistle Harry Wragg the Big Fat Jag. Greenish grey skin tone, alarming staring eyes, full kit, pillow up the football topPee Tee the Firhill Flyer appearing to do the can can in the streets of MaryhillPartick Thistle have, since 1998, had four different mascots, all very different to each other.
The first was Harry Wragg, The Big Fat Jag, who was launched for the Junior Jags and, although a bit raggedy, was loved by the kids. He was meant to represent a thistle but a lot of folk thought he was an asparagus.
Pee Tee, The Firhill Flyer was a 7ft. tall purple toucan and he took the place by storm in 2001. As well as attending home matches, he attended numerous parades, school events, athletics meetings, mascot grand nationals and he featured in two award winning documentaries.
In 2012, a change in shirt sponsorship meant that the club had a new mascot. This was Jaggy Macbee and he was there for a couple of years.
What can be said about Kingsley, probably the most publicised mascot in the world. Launched in 2015, he is still here causing havoc at every home game
