Clinician??? Anyone can become an assessor by doing a short course focussed on use of the Integrated Assessment Tool. Clinical experience is desirable, but not essential. My 'assessment' pre-dated the IAT but was done entrely via a phone call and I have significant hearing loss.

Watching Angus Taylor explain *anything* makes me wish that the Liberal Party had not been born just a few months after I was.

Banks too. I was originally a member of a Credit Union that eventually merged with a bank. The credit union used to be very responsive, but getting an answer to a basic query from the bank by phone now takes at least an hour via an overseas call centre.

Anthropic is worth nothing to me. I will keep using the open-source Chinese equivalents.

I had an EV given to me by a kind stranger a couple of months ago. Unfortunately it only has a 750 watt motor, top speed of 6km/h, an optimistic range of around 40 km, virtually no suspension, and doesn't like wet weather.😄

AI probably has the advantage of knowing exactly what's in those exams since it was most likely involved in creating the questions.

Please ask Yarndi that question. I couldn't be so presumptious as to give an opinion on behalf of a superior being.

Pro tip. If you really want your fitness watch to boost your bragging rights, take it to the paint department of your local hardware store, attach it to one of their paint shaker machines, and let that machine run for an hour or so. (Yes, I stole this idea from an episode of "Pawn Stars").

One 'problem' is that vets would have had relevant training and plenty of practice in dispatching pets humanely, whereas those involved in state murder of humans may have had little training and very little practice at finding a vein. (The hippocratic oath prevents doctors from being involved).

All good stuff. But curiously no mention of TOR-browser to improve anonymity. Or, for the really paranoid, use of Tails Incognito whose OS runs entirely on a USB stick and leaves no trace behind on the host PC.

Great idea. But based on the misuse of parking spots reserved for the convenience of disabled people in Australia, I bet that any surveillance of these areas would reveal a great number actually being used by men.

Talented? Seriously? Maybe perhaps in respect of being a receiver of talents as per the old Biblical measurement of the weight of precious metals. Remember that Wells was Aged Care minister when the now infamous Integrated Assessment aged-care budget cutting Tool first reared its ugly head.

Many of us who are directly in the firing line due to being elderly ARE furious. But we are relatively powerless to do much about it ourselves, for we tend to become invisible with age as well as frail. Indeed, who even NOTICED that today (Oct 1) is the UN's International Day of Older People?

True. One analysis of the recently leaked part of Claude's code apparently revealed evidence that it was "vibe coded", i.e. AI generated some of it. What hope do we have if this mindset persists in new models given the known halucinatory nature of current AI system responses?

I never get any spam now as a result of ditching the more common email providers in favor of the German provider "Tutamail". Been with them for at least a year. Traffic is both-way encrypted.

Does it matter? Of course it does. If our kids don't need to gain and maintain critical thinking skills because they can rely on machines to do it for them, how could they possibly survive in a rapidly changing world? This muppet wants to dumb us down to maintain his AI's perceived supremacy.

Some may never receive the help they need as they will not be able to meet the associated co-payments, and the related financial-hardship provisions are a bad joke.

For one of those countries it could be a "Go" board rather than a Chessboard. Go is a much more complex game than chess with many more possible moves. Anyone playing chess here could be woefully outclassed.

Morning, Rob. Reminds me of a uni student "prosh" parade I saw in the 60's. All floats had to be vetted beforehand. Some how the "pen is mightier than the sword" placards suffered a grammatical change to "the sword mightier than the pen is. The pink pen with the sword stuck in it also looked suss.😅

Absolutely! For the most part, the grifters in governments exhibit lazy thinking and will always choose an easy option when faced with a situation that demands effort. What better way than passing the buck to magic, nebulous scapegoat algorithms and AI. Classic examples are Aged Care and NDIS.

Curious off-the-cuff question: Has anyone ever seen Court and Segal together in the same room?
110
BobCoder @bobcoder.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
True. And kill switches are reactive devices that activate AFTER detection of some rogue event being already in train, and not BEFORE. I used to train staff on high-voltage equipment with my hand hovering over a kill switch. (If I hit it too late I would have needed to front a coroner's court).

Refusal of Support At Home services due to co-payment costs is definitely an issue for renting full pensioners. I'm currently using less than 20% of my allocated funding which places an undue support burden back onto my wife. The unused funds get clawed back by govt.

Sad. But first, build or rediscover a society that values honesty. We are currently exposed to politicians who are teaching us that rampant dishonesty for personal advantage is just fine.

BobCoder @bobcoder.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Absolutely! One of the greatest dangers associated with AI is that it greatly amplifies the capacity of rogue HUMAN operators to attack us while at the same time attempting to transfer blame onto inanimate man-made systems that conform to the "computer says no" myth.

Everything old is new again with that lot. I remember having to salute the flag in primary school in the 50's. Our only exposure to first nation culture was a magazine with a picture of an aboriginal man on its front cover, stereotypically standing on one leg & holding a spear.

The computer says no, but it is only an intermediary. Never forget that war-mongering and entirely empathy-free politicians were involved in the implementation and ongoing use of these algorithms.
041
BobCoder @bobcoder.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Speaking of "drones", I probably should have given a special mention to a third category of humans; those 'pretend' humans who are, for the most part, totally devoid of empathy, i.e. the politicians.
110
BobCoder @bobcoder.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
But is it really the end consumers who are controlling the demand for data, i.e. a "fetch" model. Or is it more likely that the demand is a function of an increasing "push" model where more and more data is pushed at us to keep us under the thumb and happily consuming stuff that we don't need.

Keeping AI under human control may not be the solution that they think it is. There are 'normal' humans, and there are 'techbro' humans.

The US is not the sole arbitrator of AI anyway. Even though they are doing their utmost to lockout competitors via restrictive trade practices, China is rapidly catching up. I don't use AI a lot, but on the odd occasions when I do need it, I reach for the Chinese versions like GLM. On principle.

We all appreciate the magnificent bravery of our fire-fighters and emergency workers. Especially as we will need many more of them to deal with the rise of emergencies due to our government's fanatical support of fossil fuel use which exacerbates global warming related emergencies.
