I realise this isn't the point of the thread, but I would like to hear more about the Baltic choral music

dang, new cat all pissed. this is not the face of an animal who is pleased to have been discovered.
Close-up of a small wild cat with brown striped fur, large rounded ears, amber eyes, and a dark nose, staring directly at the camera with an intense, slightly irritated expression.

I never get tired of watching sun and shadow chasing across the landscape, but sadly I don't have the skill to capture it like this. Gorgeous photo!

Ended up sharing a pair of eclipse glasses, a cereal box contraption and a colander with a handful of complete strangers, I loved it

That's so cool! I love finding words like that still alive and kicking. It's oddly comforting to me how these little pockets of language use persist even in the age of near-universal internet

I only know it from Jane Eyre (teenage me was obsessed with that book)

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison is my favourite escapist fantasy read; I go back to it regularly whenever life is rubbish.

I started one recently where it was the male protagonist who was incredibly handsome but didn't know it, which is rarer but, it turns out, still annoying

I actually think I might have read the veganism one (unless there are multiple out there) and also wished I hadn't persevered!

Gorgeous! There are some growing wild (or at any rate self-seeded) along the railway tracks on my way to work, and I always look out for them 😊

I went to Kyrgyzstan last summer, been daydreaming about going back to see more of the region ever since. Guess it'll have to stay a daydream!

My mum says my-zuld! I think it was a family joke when she was young. I'm pretty sure in a formal setting she'd say miss-led, though it doesn't come up often!

Gozo has gone. 16 years is a decent lifetime for a cat, but still not nearly long enough. He loved his people and he knew we loved him. We will miss you so much, you sweet goofy snuggly boy.

I'm pretty sure there's an option whereby you can just vote once for the National Trust's list of recommended candidates, to save wading through all the statements. It's the easiest way to make sure you don't unwittingly cast a vote for RT!

I have seen the show, and it was utterly tone deaf to the spirit of the book. Bobbie is practically an adult, has a romantic subplot and goes campaigning in London!

Awwww she's lovely. I have her cousin, I think (in plush form!)
A round cuddly black toy cat with green eyes, vampire fangs and white whiskers. His eyes are very round and he's smiling

And, if I remember correctly from my student days (a big if!), quite a few of our modern English words got chucked out of the meat grinder halfway through the process, like "faith"

This cat is definitely looking for trouble 😼
Part of a warning sign that says "Caution guard dogs on patrol" and shows a picture of a dog's head looking suitably intimidating. Facing the dog, someone else has added a black cat's head, at a jaunty angle that suggests its attitude to the warning is very much "Yes? And?"

It would be a great set for a kids' movie; in the climactic scene, that stuffed fish would somehow be propelled across the room and impale the villain, while the plucky kids escaped down the slide

This was an unexpectedly fun writing exercise
This corner of the kitchen has turquoise walls and turquoise appliances. The assortment of colourful food-related motifs on every surface (even the door) makes it look like a larger version of a child's play kitchen. Even the boxes and jars on the shelves look like the plastic food found in crèches everywhere.

There is an enormous carved grapevine over the fridge, like a coat of arms. On the equally vast, turquoise fridge itself is a picture in paler turquoise of a moustached chef carrying a baguette and other bread products. His lower body is not depicted and he seems to float there, like a kindly ghost baker in a boulangerie-set version of Ratatouille
