It was one of the best things we ever did for our kid, and a minefield of "dare you not to cry" moments such as watching a choir of 5-year-olds singing "Don't Stop Believin'" or a young girl playing guitar and singing "Landslide" or "True Colors."

This poll is going to one Proust madeleine after another, isn't it? 1) I have never loved any music as much as I loved hip-hop from 1988-1993, and 2) I have not spent a lot of time revisiting this music in adulthood. Each song makes me feel 14 again.
