Another birthday present that’s fairly close to the bone. 😂

It’s my birthday tomorrow. Not one to make a fuss but as I’m early turn Thursday, the beer came tonight instead.

Burger King car parks are more atmospheric in Switzerland. And this is before we even get going on the cheap beef with a bit of Gruyère on top…

Taking a pic of the brew I just made because I’m just back from a trying early turn and it’s grey and autumnal out.

Getting ready for Wednesday night. It’s a serious business in this part of Sussex.

What with today being the railway’s 200th birthday, I wanted to share something of the dawn of rail where I am. This engraving, from November 1840, commemorates the opening of Brighton station by the L&B Rly, and its first train - to Shoreham - in May of that year. #Railway200

Love a good foot tunnel. The Great Western Mainline runs above on its way through south Oxfordshire.

I do think there’s a case for Southern and GX to operate entirely separate types of rolling stock. This is a Gatwick Express service…

A Shed in the Up Loop at Haywards Heath isn’t something I’ve seen before, but a points failure at Copyhold Junction blocking the Up Main through platform was responsible for this move. This is 66019 heading up 6M26 Newhaven Marine to Neasden Engineering Sidings, by the way.

The most interesting thing about Burgess Hill station is this very, very old 19th century LB&SCR parcels store - now a waiting room - on platform 1. It once would’ve been adjacent to the station entrance, before that was relocated to the road bridge that carries Station Road over the line, above.

I don’t think this view has changed much in a hundred years. A few more cars now perhaps.

I’m walking a lot more this year and pleased to report it’s doing me the world of good so far. I realised that going from platform to control room has perhaps not had the best effect on my body, so trying hard to spend less time sat idle when not at work in 2025!

I like to unwind from a day of problem solving in the station control point, with more problem solving. The difference is here, there is wine.
My legs, in my living room. I have orange socks on. There is a glass of wine out of shot. Only Connect is on the TV.
