I wish I could do the same, but I only have laptops. Over time I got used to having freedom from cables and a fixed work location. Now in the winter, I can move around and work in whatever room is sunny. Still. I really wish I had something more ergonomic.

Question for any authors who have had recent contract dealings w/ Must Read Magazines & ASIMOV’S. Have they asked you to surrender copyright of your stories to them? They want me to create new cover art & they want to own copyright of the art. Seems like a pretty outrageous rights grab.

Probably the ultimate example of that sort of camouflage is iOS, which from the outside has very little resemblance to BSD. In some ways I think cushioning the blow is a mirage. Despite how easy it is to send a text message, I could never teach my Dad how to read them, much less send them.

In my neighborhood in Maryland, the drought has gone on so long that a few of the more vulnerable kinds of trees have become The Walking Dead. Many have been shedding leaves since mid August. Several have mushrooms growing on the roots and bear branches. Probably they’ll blow over this winter.
Mushrooms going around the base of a tree, not the type you’d expect a leprechaun to sit on, but ones that look like either flapjacks or shelf fungi depending on how you look at things. Bear branches and sparse leaves on one of the drought afflicted trees. This is the one with the mushrooms around its base from the previous picture.

AI (llm) detection tools that use AI (llm) are bullshit. Because AI (llm) is bullshit. How many times does Batman need to tell you about the weapon of the enemy, and how we do not need it and we will not use it? It's the lady who swallowed a fly. Do you not get that?

The sick part is, the people who are pushing for AI to replace actual artists have invented a moral high ground for themselves. They think they're being "bullied" and "censored" for being part of the "future". You're not a champion of the oppressed. You're not being bullied. You're just an idiot.

Three of my (unpublished) books form a series focusing on related characters. The trick was figuring out who was what age during which event. I made a spreadsheet.
Age calculation for characters from unpublished novels in the same series. The times given are since Unification, e.g. Ran was born in the year 304 Unified, when her father Ald was 40 and the person he ALMOST married, Tes, was off exploring the far side of the world at age 34. Under strange circumstances, Ran at age 64 meets 36 year old Tes, which is strange because her calendar age should be 98.

Now you see why I wrote a spreadsheet.
