Yeah, the core concept of Infinite Space is so good. Space Opera JRPG where your “party” is a fleet of ships, and instead of “gear” you slot crew into different stations on each ship. And the crew are all Fire Emblem style characters with unique designs and stories.

Solatorobo: Red The Hunter. Action RPG where you play an anthro dog bounty hunter riding a mech. Set in a steampunk world of floating islands and airships populated by cat and dog furries. Amazing character and mecha designs from an all-star team of anime and manga artists.

LostMagic. Action RTS where you cast spells by quickly drawing runes on the touch screen. Art direction by anime legend Yoshiharu Satō who did character design for Totoro and worked on dozens of other projects for ghibli and other studios.

The one thing I miss about Apple Music is they had a lot of really good curated live DJ sets by big name DJs and artists. Obviously there’s plenty of DJ sets on Youtube, but it’s not well categorized, and usually comes without individual songs tagged.

The 3D models even have lip-sync and the live2d portraits don’t!!! The shots are composed as if you could see the entire screen, not accounting for a dialog box and portrait taking up half of it. It’s quite a weird choice even as someone who has played a fair share of JRPGs and VNs.

So much of the game just works seamlessly in VR. Every interaction is just a laser pointer: mining, crafting, building, inventory, combat, etc. And laser pointer UI is so nice because it separates camera control from targeting. Makes it much comfier to ineteract with lots of items in 3d space.

I used to go for gaming spec laptops last decade. But Godot runs so nice on low specs compared to Unity/Unreal. Been thinking about picking up a something like a Macbook or Surface to turn into light little linux machine.

I suspect a lot of genres get boosted in the analysis because they are often added as a teritiary tag even if they are not what most people would consider a primary genre for that game.

They say adult games are excluded from the analysis. They note that they determined genre by analzying top 6 tags per game. I wonder if this is biased by JRPGs getting tagged by users. Persona 5 and Persona 3 Reload are both VNs by that metric.

The RPG mechanics are usually unimportant in a litRPG, the same way that medieval economics are unimportant to Lord of the Rings. The reader only needs to understand the social dynamics: be it noobs and guild leaders in an MMO, or peasants and kings in a medieval kingdom.

Writers are inpsired by the emergent social stories in MMOs. Getting a rare powerful drop as a noob. Joining a guild to work your way up. Getting guided through a raid. Getting ganked in a PVP zone but a high-level player saves you. Playing an unorthodox build that surprises people.

I think LitRPG is usually inspired more by MMOs than any ttrpg or single-player rpg. Often, the story is designed around the social dynamics of MMOs: guilds, raids, grinding, corpse runs, PVP, noobs, etc.

But for repurposed hardware, my fav example is MultiWii. Early hobbyist quadcopters were built with gyro chips ripped out of Wii remotes. MultiWii was the flight controller firmware using those chips. All modern open FC projects (betaflight, iNav, Ardupilot) are still just forks of Multiwii.

The question of “who did danmaku-style slow bullet patterns in 3D first?” is a harder question. There’s always been a lot of mechanical crossover between 2D shooters, 3D shooters, and action games. It’s kinda like asking “what 2D SHMUP invented parrying?”

I think Nier Automata’s popularity kicked off the modern trend. Nier goes back to Drakengard, which takes its 3D SHMUP influence pretty directly from Panzer Dragoon. And Panzer Dragoon in turn is part of Sega’s rail shooter lineage going back to Space Harrier.

Why would any cross-sex behaviour be encoded in the brain? Why would trans men get morning wood if they aren’t born with the relevant parts. Most sexual development is not hardcoded at birth, it is a function of the brain being exposed to the right hormones.
