From 11/9/26: Just got a “Dear Colleague” email from the NSF. Read it and the linked information therein. I am especially dismayed by the plan for “Golden Ticket” funding for research that would not survive panel review. That means funding projects that support their atavism & corruption. Sigh.

Utah is sharply divided, it is true. But the larger part support Lee, though it isn't clear that they support what he does. Their ignorance is intentional.

"substantial knowledge deficits across multiple domains" sounds so much better than saying someone is willfully ignorant, or just plain stupid. I'll have to use that. Those referenced thusly probably won't even understand the slight.

Voices: The LDS Church’s abortion message to voters is not peacemaking. It is coercive control at every level.

Some questions may be inherently individual ones, or people may be sharply divided about whether they are. In such cases, the proper role of religion is to appeal to the conscience of the individual, not the coercive power of the state. Edward Kennedy Edited for brevity.

The real transgression occurs when religion wants government to tell citizens how to live uniquely personal parts of their lives. The failure of Prohibition proves the futility of such an attempt when a majority or even a substantial minority happens to disagree.

What I gleaned from Trump’s speech at the UNGA: - He openly admitted ordering crimes against humanity - He is planning to order more - He remains an imbecile incapable of any truly human feelings - He’s still at least three layers short of a Maslow cake.

And so we see that we have learned nothing from the California Prop 8 fiasco, wherein; 1. Gay marriage still happened in spite of organized LDS efforts, 2. We (LDS) managed to anger a large group of the general population, and 3. The broader christian world still hates us as blasphemers.

The best protection for widespread religious liberty, and liberty in general, is for government to be neutral, even disinterested, in religious belief; with the caveat that government will need to limit the power of groups that impose their religious requirements on others.

Rayleigh Lord @blueskyscattering.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
While you may agree with present priorities, power wielded by religious opportunists invariably leads to exclusion and oppression of those unwilling to profess fealty and obey. The day will come when you are excluded from the powerful group, and your beliefs will be targeted.

Rayleigh Lord @blueskyscattering.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
It is unwise to allow the use of government power to enforce religious doctrine. After all, who chooses which doctrines are enforced? Not you.
130
Rayleigh Lord @blueskyscattering.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Under the guise of religious liberty influential religious opportunists are increasingly using the coercive power of government to impose religious tenets broadly and limit choices of others.

Rayleigh Lord @blueskyscattering.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
TLDR; government must not be used to enforce religious doctrine! Continuing on: It is a basic postulate of liberty that having others disagree with your viewpoint does not in and of itself infringe on your liberty.

I saw something like this on that other place. I've recreated it here using the original NOAA graphic, annotated by me. I define 30-year averages or 30-year trends to be climate, not weather. Note the clear climate change trend now spans 45+ years. There is no question--the climate is changing!
Graphic from https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/monitoring/monthly-report/global of average global temperature averages in Julys from 1850 through 2026, showing trend of increasing temperatures over the last 45 years.

While that seemed to work, the result was the inflation realized during the Biden administration. From Trump’s perspective, the $5000 payout is a win-win. He gets credit for giving money to voters. And any inflationary rise wouldn’t happen until the next administration, which would take the blame.

Rayleigh Lord @blueskyscattering.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
Trump's $5000 for each adult would pump over a trillion dollars cash into the economy, which would invariably lead to high inflation. We've seen this before. Recall the cash payments during covid, started by Trump and continued by Biden, ostensibly to prevent economic slide into recession or worse.

The Book of Mormon

6 And now, as the Amalekites were of a more wicked and murderous disposition than the Lamanites were, in and of themselves, therefore, Zerahemnah appointed chief captains over the Lamanites, and they were all Amalekites and Zoramites.

(This verse keeps echoing around in my head from years ago when they talk about CBP being even more vicious than ICE.)
(Years ago bc trauma and health mean my brain can't do scriptures at more than a single verse a day so it's been a while. But I'm still very familiar with the material. And that's why I'm so mad that so many refuse to see all the parallels and warnings that are *right there* calling out corrupted governments and leaders!)
(So what if you think it's fiction? We still look to plenty of fiction for insight and wisdom. Why not analyze this in a similar fashion, too?)

Yes. The entire chapter reads like current events, building to verse 39: 39 And thus they did obtain the sole management of the government, insomuch that they did trample under their feet and smite and rend and turn their backs upon the poor and the meek, and the humble followers of God.
