July saw steady progress towards my #100plants2026 count, finishing the month on 230 species. Still learning lots and surprised by my total so far. Some shore plants swelled the list like Sea Aster, a lovely sight at Old Erskine Harbour. @bsbiscotland.bsky.social

Bit late reporting in, but my half-year total for #100plants2026 was up to 168 by the end of June. It was a slow month - not helped by family holidays - and there seemed less about. Finally hit No.200 today with Creeping Jenny Lysimachia nummularia at Port Glasgow @bsbiscotland.bsky.social

An excellent moth trapping session on Thursday (9/7) at Ben Cruachan, Argyll (VC98). Highlights were Small Mottled Willow (1), Northern Rustic (2) - both NFM - Scotch Annulet (9) and Thyme Pug (1). Total: 128/32. An exciting place to moth trap with a fine range of other wildlife. #scottishmoths

May was a productive month for my #100plants2026 challenge. I finished up on 125 species by end of spring, helped by a trip to Argyll’s hill country where I added some rock face specialities like Alpine Lady’s Mantle, Roseroot and Starry Saxifrage. Pushing on now to 200. @bsbiscotland.bsky.social

So that’s me 100 up in the third week of May. #100plants2026 was clearly not so difficult, even for a relative beginner like me, but I’ve learned lots and am keen to push on. My 100th species was, appropriately, Bog-bean - the county flower for Renfrewshire #BSBIScotland

First month done for my #100plants2026 challenge. 47 species recorded in Scotland in April so about halfway. Highlight so far was Toothwort near Lanark @bsbiscotland.bsky.social

Feeling stoked to find a superb male Rhinocerous Beetle Sinodendron cylindricum today on a broken chestnut tree near Bishopton (VC76). Rare in these parts with just a single other Central Belt record on NBN @glasgownathist.bsky.social @bugmanjones.com.web.brid.gy @ashwhiffin.bsky.social

Sadly, I missed #worldrobberflyday - but here’s some Leptarthrus brevirostris from Lochawe (VC98) last week. Excellent numbers, so a big local emergence, of a species that is near annual at the site @dipteristsforum.bsky.social @uk-soldierflies.bsky.social

High numbers of Pearl-bordered Fritillary and a decent count of five Chequered Skipper at my Argyll VC98 survey site near Loch Awe last week. It was good to catch up with them before the weather turned

Hooray! Like Corrie the Dog, I’m excited to join the BlueSky community. Hoping to connect with other entomologists and wildlife people and talk flies, moths and other insects. Plus a bit of photography and music
