doing some random historical medical research... Joseph Jones (1833-1896) was an MD who studied pandemics in New Orleans in the 19th century. He was also raised on a slave holding plantation in Georgia and was a confederate surgeon. He did studies about gangrene at the Andersonville Prison

Watching all the Dolly clips and quotes across the internet, I think the reason anyone could mistake her for being "neutral" is that she would just do the right thing and then leave the door open for folks to choose better choices next time. A true master of Bless Your Heart. What a gift she was.

I just remembered the dream that woke me up in the wee hours. I went in to pay a bill... for something and was writing a check when I learned that the bill was 5 times more than I thought. So I was panicking and trying to figure out how to pay when I woke up. Yay generalized anxiety

Just finished watching #AllthePresidentsMen for its 50th anniversary. I forgot about unscrewing the mouth part of the phone so no one could hear you listening on the other line. Also Hoffman and Redford have such great hair.

Back in the old smoking days, if you did laundry at Checkpoint than your wet clothes immediately sucked in all tobacco smells and your clothes were potentially stinkier than when they started.

Since this is my random thought space... As I walked into work this morning, I thought that the most unrealistic thing about Bridgerton is that Lady Violet still has a good set of teeth. Before calcium supplements, the more children you had the fewer teeth you retained. That is all.

Yesterday as I was being berated by elderly neighbors for leaving town without telling them... Dude pulls up on a bike and starts talking to us about birds. He then lets us know that he eats the squirrels and rats that eat his bird feed. So that was different. #NaturallyNawlins

Just a reminder as we all start to clean up from parades - donate those unwanted throws! Libraries should have drop bins for ARC. Word on street is Uptown WFoods is only recycling what fits in the bins, nothing outside it (they are trashing that!).

my watch is telling me that I've been "exercising" really hard and that maybe a day of rest is needed. On a slightly related note, as I cataloged all my bruises yesterday... I must have twisted my ankle at some point based on the bruises. I blame oak tree roots. #carnivalproblems

There were 10 murders in New Orleans in November and 108 so far in 2025. That's the second fewest through November since 1970 and the city is on pace for 117 in 2025 which would be the fewest in a year since 1970.

Louisiana took months to sound alarm after two babies died in whooping cough outbreak
By Rosemary Westwood, WWNO When there’s an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease, state health officials typically take certain steps to alert residents and issue public updates about the growing threat. That’s standard practice, public health and infectious disease experts told KFF Health News and NPR. The goal is to keep as many other vulnerable people as possible from getting sick and to remind the public about the benefits of vaccinations. But in Louisiana this year, public health officials appeared to have not followed that playbook during the state’s worst whooping cough outbreak in 35 years.
