Maybe same that some ciliates fix themselves to large diatoms; it increases the flow around the epibiont compared to just floating around?

The analysis reveals patterns of state–corporate collusion and regulatory inaction, with states such as Norway and China promoting krill exploitation for economic benefit by blocking stricter quotas and the establishment of marine protected areas.

If it is on an open repository/freely available, it is free game IMO. I used to publish my whole alignments, or even intermediate files so people could easily reuse. All NSF OCE raw data is available at BCO-DMO, for example. Or genbank.

not to be pedantic - the larvae of all ctenophores is the cydippid larvae... That is, like a small gooseberry. Then, as larvae, would be very difficult to say what they will be when adults. If they are larvae - if those are small adults, then yes, sea gooseberries!!

this is also the (almost complete) closure of the US market to foreign postdocs. For many, the next best option is this. I know many even US postdocs applying to this now, since the US market is collapsing.

based in literature, one of the largest and most studied species, P. xiphias, is at least 5 different species. Oithona similis, at least 10. And these are the "known since ever", living in the epipelagic!! Then, just the known copepods might be really 50,000. And the unknown from the deep?2x?3x?4x?

Might be better but... Let's take my group of expertise, Copepods. Described species: ~13,000, marine ~10000 (some are freshwater, and some even semiterrestrial living in the water of bromelia, bananas, moss and things like that... unexplored completely in most places). If we look marine,

Am with Jo. The percentage of described crustaceans is EXTREMELY optimistic, when we have only a handful of deep sea samples (the largest biome in extension), and when we look there in detail we find 100s of undescribed species PER SAMPLE, just for copepods. And Nematoda people will say the same
