SDV is in that way more like classic Harvest Moon games; passively letting you play your way into improvements and progress with little direction. FOM feels like a more modern take, gently guiding/encouraging you along to progress and into befriending NPCS. Cannot recommend enough honestly.

the difference between SDV and FOM is that SDV is all player driven decisions. Theres little in the game that drives your day-to-day decisions, allowing you to go at your own pace. FOM is more game driven, doing an excellent job of pulling you into completing quests/befriending villagers.

Fields of Mistria is an exceptional harvest moon-like. They even have two 'special' romance options. I genuinely think its up there with Stardew Valley (still the GOAT in my opinion) in terms of understanding the assignment of the farming community game.
