Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 1hI don't have co-workers anymore, so my friends now inform me of all the co-worker movie takes they hear 010
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 15hCorman elucidated "people want to see a movie about murder. So what you need to do is begin it with him stabbing somebody. You can go into the trial stuff later on" 030
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 15hHeard one of the '90s guys who worked with Roger Corman say he asked him to write a frame story for an existing film, so he wrote an elaborate one that could be crosscut throughout of someone on trial, presented it to him, and Corman went "nobody wants to see a movie that begins with a guy in court" 120
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 16hI didn't write it! When I write stuff I make references to things in a cool, interesting way 130
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 16hDeath Machine. The guy who wrote/directed it also did effects work on Aliens and Alien 3 110
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 16hTwo other characters in this movie are named "Weyland" and "Yutani" 250
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 16hI heard one of these one time but it began with a guy reading out loud "this is the 60 second edit. begin ad now:" and then it went into it 130
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 16hAnd we're wasting even more with these posts! It's a sad state of affairs 120
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 17hPeople love to name characters in movies stuff like "Scott Ridley" or "John Carpenter" or "Sam Raimi" and they should not 180
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 17hAn eBay seller sent me an offer on at $12. I countered with $10. Then he countered with $13. I sent another counter of $11, which he accepted. Was the $1 really worth all that 170
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 23hThey really did make it right the first time in the '70s, and the subsequent 3 adaptations just seem beside the point 110
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 23hMike Flanagan says ideally his Carrie show would run for 3 seasons total. The show already went through all the events (and more) of the book in the 1st season 110
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Admittedly, I didn't watch all of it but I think I got the gist. The interview stuff is vaguely like the book since that has epistolary elements with multiple narrators, reports excerpted, etc. But that's done to basically say nothing can explain what happened, and in the show it's the opposite 010
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 08/10/2026The whole thing is told from a frame story of a documentarian interviewing everybody post-destruction. Which doesn't work because then you know who survives. Then at the end the interviewer kills Carrie's mom, revealing she was working with the X-Men or whatever 110
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 08/10/2026They also do it so Carrie's mom dies via heart attack, which is accurate to the book. But doesn't work in a visual medium, because then she just kind of slumps over and that's it 110
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 08/10/2026That would make more sense. In the show there's an instagram account made in Carrie's name that's used to bully all the other students at the school and the profile pic is Carrie in the showers. But everybody thinks it's not Carrie, and then it turns out it was Chris Hargensen doing it so ??? 000
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Also, the story kind of just doesn't work if you show every single other student at the school get bullied. And Carrie constantly gets revenge on them throughout, so there's no real build to the ending 140
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Then when Carrie goes home after, her mom reveals that she has powers too. Carrie doesn’t kill her mom and escapes. So Carrie lives at the end. And then some random person who’s making a documentary about Carrie interviews her mom and uses her own telekinetic powers to kill her 350
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 08/10/2026So there's a team of other telekinetics that are like the X-Men who find out about Carrie and in the prom scene one of them possesses Carrie's mind and she's the one who destroys everything and not Carrie 160
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Every episode of Carrie ends with a "ON THE NEXT CARRIE" which is quaint, but it's on streaming and they released every episode the same day 070
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 08/10/2026There’s a lot of narrative things that you just should not do. Like, even though everybody knows the way the story ends, I don’t think it’s particularly helpful to show how she’s going to destroy destroy the school and town immediately after she goes to school for the first time 150
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 08/10/2026All the changes that were made to the newest version of Carrie kind of just make it seem like they weren't interested in the things Carrie was about 1140
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 07/10/2026One of the Scooby-Doo movies is getting released on blu-ray with an audio commentary by Rocco Botte 140
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Being art direction on a film is interesting because every time I see anything I think “hmm, can I use that for something” 080
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 07/10/2026But there is a scene where the main couple is having sex, the dog peeps on them through the keyhole, starts barking, and then the guy gets so turned off that they stop. Not many people would think of a scene like this 010
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Watching a movie that's basically a remake of White Dog, but they removed all the stuff about race so it's not about much 110
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Ed Wood movies are still being discovered. In 2022 there was a film that people on the production revealed was actually directed by Wood after 45 years. There was a feature film he did that wasn't found until 2017, one he wrote that was found in 2014, and a TV pilot found in 2011 020
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 06/10/2026This isn't even all of it. It's gotta be the equivalent of like 5 or 6 pages of text 060
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 06/10/2026As long as we're talking about weird Wikipedia pages, check out how long the "Legacy" section is on the page for the mostly forgotten Eddie Murphy vehicle Vampire in Brooklyn 380
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 06/10/2026For October they should use an Ouija board instead and play the game it spells out 040
Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Yes, but in another way they followed the wheel even better than normal because they’re gonna play all 3 games 060

Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I wonder if Roger Corman kept up on all the films his former employees made or just the ones who became successful/well-regarded 020

Jared @bj-slive.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Receiving word about an article in Variety that says the negative reception of Taylor Swift's music post-marriage is comparable to negative reception of Paul McCartney's music post-marriage. I guess, but the reaction to McCartney's music had more to do with getting blamed for breaking up the Beatles 121
