Diego scoffed softly. "Well, he‘s not scared of me. Must be my cuddly looks."

"He‘s not wrong," Diego hummed, focusing on his coffee. He did look up when Phoenix spoke again, but his brain wasn’t quite there. "How many what?"

"He does those annoying kicked puppy eyes, all the time! Don’t tell me you‘ve never seen them."

"You assume correctly," Diego confirmed, taking the cup greedily and taking a big swig. The heat didn’t seem to bother him, but the feeling helped settle his spirit, making him hum appreciatively.

Diego scrunched up his nose. "No way. I‘ll cover his face when he does the eyes. With a towel or something."

"Not even a rule, a necessity," Diego grumbled. He couldn't help but smile when Trucy hugged him, though. The kid was growing on him quickly. He wrapped an arm around her, too. "Mornin', chaparrita. You're already chipper, huh?"

"Yeah, but if I admit that, he'll get all soft about it. It's annoying."

Diego joined him and leaned on the kitchen counter, letting his head hang down. "Ugh... Hope you made a big pot."

"Yeah, yeah, he's a damn hero." Diego smiled lopsidedly. "You're making it real hard for me to be snarky about him."

Since he hadn't been using the contacts for very long yet, Diego still wasn't very good at putting them on, especially the first one. It took him a while to get it right, but eventually, he managed. He got up as well then, his body feeling heavy and creaky, and went to join the Wrights.

Diego made a face. "Yeaah... I suppose so."

Diego grumbled again, holding on for another moment before he gave it up. "Go on ahead," he sighed, sitting up slowly before reaching for his contacts. "Always takes me a moment with the first one."

Eventually, fatigue was taking Diego as well. Blackmail material secured, he removed his contact lenses, then settled in and dozed off after a while, one arm still around Phoenix.

Diego shrugged. "I don't know. I haven't given it much thought. I didn't expect to get out of all this alive."

Diego smirked slightly and decided to be a bit of a menace. He grabbed his phone and recorded a clip of the Phoenix cuddled up to him, snoring away. It was kind of adorable.

Diego shook his head. "Nope. I mean, I got to my appointments. That's where I got these fancy things." He motioned to his eyes. "That's about it right now."

Diego let him sleep. He doubted he was strong enough to carry him to bed at this point, but the couch was spacious enough either way. He made sure the blanket covered him and kept watching TV.
