Another quality evening at Brands Bay and Jerry’s Point with @edjbetteridge.bsky.social. Great to find a Little Stint among Ringo flock, and a juv Kittiwake in the bay. Also a presumed foreign colour ringed GBB Gull with metal ring on tibia, although frustratingly distant! @harbourbirds.bsky.social

Earlier this season RSPB Arne kindly allowed us to install a monitoring camera on a branch we know Ospreys like to land on to help us read ring numbers. Last night a Nightjar used it as a song perch just as the full moon was rising. Atmospheric! @peter-purbeck.bsky.social @rspbengland.bsky.social

Just submitted my 17 AON from Livermere Lake. All sites, big and small, really make an important contribution to SMP. If you see inland breeding gulls and terns, please make an effort to count the number of nests, and ideally young birds and submit to SMP.

Into the wetland with the Spoonbill… Both parents feed chicks by regurgitating food. Fledglings (nicknamed teaspoons 😭) grow fast, and their spoon-shaped bills start to form even before they leave the nest. #SpringStories

This afternoon North Yorkshire Police announced the suspicious disappearance of young male White-tailed Eagle G834, the first to fledge from Dorset in centuries. This eagle was special for multiple reasons, not only his historic status but also wowing visitors & school children around Poole Harbour

The UK’s strangest avian couple at the Long Nanny, Northumberland this morning - the female American Black Tern with the same male Arctic Tern she bred (unsuccessfully) with in 2024. A small nest scrape but no eggs as yet. #NEbirding #rarebirdsUK
