Really surprised that even in my suburban new build in Chichester I’ve got to 100 species of moth in just a couple of months of trapping. And #100 was the best so far, a truly stunning Merveille du Jour! What a spectacular creature! #teammoth #ukmoths #sussexmoths

Half of the moths in last nights garden trap (Chichester) were Lunar Underwings. There was a nice range of colour variation. #teammoth
3 moths on the end of a lolly stick. They are all Lumar Underwings but the left two are light brownish and the right one is a dark grey/brown.

That does make Wogan look like a serial killer hiding in the basement in a schlocky slasher movie.
A man looks creepy because of the overhead camera shot. He is wearing black shoes, white socks, grey trousers and a black long sleeved top. He has a slightly manic facial expression and dark hair.

Pied Hoverfly was a new one for the garden list today. What a smart little insect!

More fun than the heatwave was! Going to have to water the garden again today though as we’re in the middle of another dry spell.

A nice FOY Grey Phalarope at the Ferry Pool at Pagham Harbour this afternoon. Not much else about in the strong wind though.
A small bird with a grey back, white underparts, black markings on the face, and a black bill. It is framed by a metal fence and is in shallow water.

Blue skies on my Chichester Harbour @webs-gsmp.bsky.social count this afternoon. 340 Oystercatchers the main bird of note on the very high tide. Masses of Sandwich Terns in the harbour (200+) showing what a good breeding season was had at Pagham. Too windy for many small birds though.

An amusing moment at the Volunteers Thank You lunch at RSPB Pagham Harbour today when this Vestal moth decided that pretending to be a necklace would be a good hiding strategy. “Don’t move, this will be a fun photo!” #teammoth

Spent 3 days at the British Nationals squash at St George’s Hill. Two high quality finals yesterday. Here #2 seed Jas Hutton plays a shot whilst #1 seed (and eventual winner) Gina Kennedy looks on. Two of Britains (and the world’s) finest athletes - they should be household names!
At the front left a woman in a black dress is preparing to play a left handed shot. In the middle stands another woman wearing a blue-green top and holding a racket in her right hand. The court has a dark wooden floor and a blue front wall.

I bought a basic moth trap and I’ve been amazed at what I get even in my suburban new build. I’ve only been using it for 2 1/2 weeks and I’ve still got at least 84 species with 43 in one night the max. It doesn’t compare to many but shows what is about even in the concrete jungle! #teammoth #moths
A Maple Prominent moth. A small brown moth that looks like a piece of dead wood. A light green moth with a white & dark green line in the middle of its wings. It is a Light Emerald. A creamy moth with a few black spots on a brown background. It is a Buff Ermine. A very small white moth with black spots appears to be looking at its reflection like a tiny ghost. It is a species of ermine.

Even though I’m a Pompey (Portsmouth) fan you should definitely pick Brighton. The local Brighton newspaper The Argus carries so many stories like this, so having the team being nicknamed The Seagulls is perfect. They are also building the first specifically women’s football stadium in Europe.

First time trying #Chichester new music venue Upstairs at Raps. I knew Jess Hayes from Connolly Hayes would be good and she was fantastic. Joined by her blues rock legend mum Val for several songs as well. With great sound in a lovely intimate setting this is a great addition to the city!

It’s only relatively recently that they stopped awarding an actual cap per game, so 20th century footballers absolutely would have had a room full of caps.

Yesterday was a beautiful evening to go on the Seal Safari cruise in Chichester Harbour. About 30 Grey & Common Seals seen. Some nice views of Little Terns and 3 Common Scoters - unusual in the harbour, especially in June! First time I’ve done the Seal trip, but I’d highly recommend it!
A number of large grey and brown mammals are resting on mud. They are Grey Seals.3 brown mammals are resting on some mud. The front right one is stretched out. They are Common Seals. A lot of boats are in a harbour. The sky is blue with wispy white clouds.

Our annual Chichester RSPB Nightjar walk at Lavington Common was a great success last night. Very cooperative Tree Pipit & Dartford Warbler, lots of Nightjar activity, and even a fly over Woodcock - the first one we’ve had on this walk for several years. #birds #ukbirding

Lovely shot Colin, such a cute lemon colour. I didn’t manage to get the fledglings in the garden but I did get one of the absolutely battered parents. With the heat last week and wind & rain this week they have been working extra hard!
