Maybe closer to 20% if we include non-combat situations during which we still use initiative - like shipboard emergencies or wild animal evasion.

I think it’s accurate to say only about 10% of our table time is tactical play.

What’s the ratio between role playing and tactical play at your RPG table?

Does a nice job of emulating the arc of a typical Hellboy adventure. Seek eldritch creatures. Encounter eldritch creatures. Kill eldritch creatures. Repeat.

It wasn’t until a few years after we wrote BP that I realized how much it paralleled Dune. Like it or not, Avatar: Way of Water is probably the closest comparison.

Considered from this perspective, I've been motivated to pick and plan carefully. It's also made it easier to cull my RPG collection and to convince myself not to buy every new book or board game that catches my attention. The list* is fluid, and in no particular order, currently includes: 3/4

As a result, I've started an evolving short list of TRPG campaigns I still want to run and in which I still want to play. Given my current rate of campaign completion, I feel like that means I have 7-10 substantive campaigns left ahead of me. 2/4

Given I just turned 60 last month, I have been thinking a lot about the gaming time I have left. Not in a morose way, but in a more "I have a conceivable limit and so want to make the best use of my gaming runway." 1/4

Ditto - however, I recently did a big cull, leaving only the titles I intend to actually run/play before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

🚨 OCEAN HEAT: We are entering uncharted territory. Record-breaking ocean temperatures are pushing ecosystems closer to dangerous tipping points. Fossil fuel corporations and big polluters are gambling with a liveable planet for profit.

In Star Trek people often complain that replicated food is not as good as naturally produced food, which is weird when replicators are presumably using the same technology as transporters, which can perfectly replicate Spock every time. But is Spock getting less flavoursome over time? In this essay,

Suggestion - Have some significant time pass, have the characters create individual lists of downtime activities/goals and then roleplay the key parts of each list montage/round-robin style.

Had a blast at GenCon. Played a ton of games - standouts were the new-to-me The Breach and Wanderhome. Ran a couple of Blue Planet sessions - both groups were outstanding. The special backer’s game was a new con scenario I’m calling Down on the Farm, and they rocked it. 1/2

It’s my birthday today. The big six-oh. Not really a celebrator, so just spent the day with my three loves - my wife, my cat and gaming. Playing LA-1, a theme-forward story game in the vein of Arkham Horror. Targets one if my favorite genres - cyber-noir. First play, but already digging it!
