The Government talked a good game on sewage but their targets have failed to wash with the public. We must give the new regulator the powers it needs to hold these water companies accountable for the damage they are doing.

This is Musk's new pinned tweet. - It's Latin meaning "no one provokes me and gets away with it." - He attributes it to Sulla, the Roman general who marched on Rome, named himself dictator and launched a notorious reign of terror, executing much of the city's elite. - It's never linked to Sulla.

This is a very dead horse, but I do hope that if democracy survives, my progressive friends will take to heart the lesson that, yes, concentrating more power in the state can get you what you want when you're in control—but it also means bad people can use it for bad things when they're in control.

No libertarianism worth its name should ever accept those kinds of fundamental restrictions on the rights of humans, and their freedom to peacefully provide for themselves and their families, in exchange for the pot of gruel of the promise of some tax cuts and deregulation.

Nor should any libertarianism worth its name think for a second that there is some sort of equal moral weighting between those promised economic policies and the return of state-sponsored torture, or troops in the streets of Chicago, or cozying up to Putin, or saber-rattling with the rest of the world.

This is a double betrayal. A broken promise from the Conservatives followed by a shameful cop out from Labour. First, ripping away what was promised to communities and then using the day of Trump’s inauguration in a shoddy attempt to bury the bad news shows an outrageous disregard for patients.

American political discussions would be more fruitful if we didn’t treat “conservatism” and “the right” as synonyms, and if we distinguished social conservatism from personal or political conservatism. If nothing else, it would help more people understand the radicalism of the American far-right.
